5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth as Silk
This CD is, no BS, the smoothest thing since silk. I wouldn't even call it mixing, it sounds like Dave slides right into his next track, his basslines matching perfectly, as well as the beat. I'd slip this CD on and wear it as a shirt if it were any smoother. While not quite as dark as most of the stuff I usually listen to, it's still a very powerful, very well...

1.0 out of 5 stars waste of money
buying this cd was a total waste of money. most tracks sound the same. there is no variety of sound in the tracks. i hate this cd. this cd gets quite repetative and annoying. i reccomend saving your money and spending it on something else but this garbage(unless you are a diehard fan or dave ralph).

Thank you, Dave, for one of the most emotionally moving CD's I own.

I'm kind of new to Dave Ralph. Although I've heard about him before but never really got around to listen to his previous mixes. Then I see his new album and thought, lets give it a try.. I have to say, I am very pleased. You can't go wrong with this title. It's pure progressive house to the fullest. With some very enchanting vocals here and there, every track will in this album will get the night going. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the 2nd disk

5.0 out of 5 stars sleek and sexy; deep and spacious, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Resident Alien (Audio CD)
While this does not have the variety and colorful business of Dave Ralph's "Naturalized", this remains my favorite album of Dave's work. The mix is spacious and reserved, almost minimalist in a way, but at the same time busy with sweeping cascades of white noise that give a spacious wind-like effect and carry you through the set. Sexy bassline grooves and thumping pulse beats drive the mix, while reverb-soaked deep house samples and roaring winds shift and breathe around you. I would call this style of sound "dark trance", though the songs on this album can be as heavenly as they can be dark. Definitely a winner.... a smooth pallete of cinematic sounds that sets itself apart not only from the rest of the trance world but also apart from Dave Ralph's other albums. Sleek, groovy, smooth and spacious... heavenly, deep and very cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Great Mix, May 11, 2003
By
This review is from: Resident Alien (Audio CD)
I had neither ever listened to Dave Ralph or even heard about him in my life. I listened to this album in Virgin and even at first time, his flawless mix amazed me. So i bought the album right away and I must say his taste and skills are nearly perfect.

CD 1 is the better of the two and I wouldnt be able to point out a track that stands out because there is none, what makes this album so great is that it sounds like a 75 minute journey and you really appreciate the whole CD.

CD 2 is not as great but still listenable, i am liking it more and more as i hear it. However CD 1's greatness makes up for that loss.

I could say this is the bext mix I have heard this year. If you appreciate dance music, you MUST get your hands on this one. However, if you appreciate progessive house music with some vocals and techno, trancey beats, i guarantee you wont take this off your cd player for a long time.

Already cant wait for his next album, great job man!

5.0 out of 5 stars So solid!, April 8, 2003

This is a flawless mix of relentless progressive house that kicks off when you hit play and doesn't stop until the very end of the final track. The mixing is so smooth you can't even tell when one track ends and a new one begins, except for when he cranks up the bass drum kick in each transition. This stuff will blow any good club or house party up. Chris Fortier's latest Bedrock release, Danny Howells' recent stuff and Digweed's G.U. LA CD all come to mind when you hear such skillful mixing and such nasty beats. If you like drivin' house music without diva-ish vocals or techno-ey synthesizers, then this is the album for you. Definitely the best prog house release so far this year (2003).

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievelable, April 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Resident Alien (Audio CD)
I have always been a fan of heavier trance, but recently I have been expanding my techno horizons so I bought Ralph's new cd. It is incredible! He truly belongs with the best after this mix. For me ,I would not say that one song truly stands out, it is the whole album together, one finely construed mix that is what makes the album the album of the year so far for me. His wonderful approach to progressive house is something unique and should earn him more accolades. This is a must buy for anybody who appreciates electronic music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hypnotic journey into the mind of Dave Ralph, March 8, 2004

Beautiful and entracing, while eerie and eccentric. Dave Ralph proves to be an expert snake-charmer with his creepy breed of spaced-out "skeletal" trance. The high-pitched melodic synths well known to trance are almost completely absent throughout this mix, leaving the tracks in the control of bassy strings, female vocals and metallic ambience. Sleek and stylish, the disc's unique flavor strays off from the mainstream....although repetitive in many areas, fans who already understand Dave Ralph's style will have no problem slipping away into his world of dissonant low-key trance. The second disc is especially a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ah, A Breath of Fresh Air, May 12, 2003

When I picked up Dave Ralph's new CD, "Resident Alien," I had never heard of him.

I should be ashamed of myself.

As a resolute follower of the likes of the progressive trance that pounded our senses in the late 90's, I took to Ralph's sharp bass lines, icy vocals and overall rhythmic hypnosis immediately. By the time I was half way through the second track, my raver heart was aching for the likes of Ferry Corsten and Paul Van Dyk and content only that it had found this new source of sound. The CD never once tripped over a transition or shifted too quickly. It was all I could ask for.

If you're a true fan of trance in all it's late 90's glory, definately check out this CD. You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotionally Overwhelming, November 29, 2003
This review is from: Resident Alien (Audio CD)
This whole CD ranks at the top of my list for progressive sounds that can can be found on a store-bought CD. It seems like most DJ's these days reserve their best material for radio sets that are unattainble through standard means. I must give special mention to track 2. Chris Fortier's augmented version of Everyday. One of the most beautiful tracks I've ever heard....it actually had my girlfriend in TEARS!!.....that is power.
