5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Guide.
This guide really isn't all that different from the Gamecube version of the guide. It's just as good and detailed. You probably could use the Gamecube version for this game, but if you don't have that guide, it's always better to go to the one that covers the console you're playing.

Now, the guide is about the same. I could be a weenie like most of those...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Guide., October 30, 2005
This review is from: Resident Evil 4 (Bradygames Signature Series Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
This guide really isn't all that different from the Gamecube version of the guide. It's just as good and detailed. You probably could use the Gamecube version for this game, but if you don't have that guide, it's always better to go to the one that covers the console you're playing.

Now, the guide is about the same. I could be a weenie like most of those reviewers and say, "See my review for the Gamecube version," but I'm not going to sink that low, because it's inconvenient for you, the reader. But the only additional things you should know is that all the extras are covered in tact. Most noteably is how well it covers "Separate Ways", Ada's new mission in this one. Other than that, the guide is about the same as it was for the Gamecube version.

BradyGAMES is known for presenting good Resident Evil guides, and Resident Evil 4 is no exception. One of the best RE4 resources you'll ever need. This guide is jam-packed with all the secrets and strategies you need to conquer Resident Evil 4. With the help of game developers, BradyGAMES has produced one of the best RE guides ever!

Resident Evil 4 is a complex game. It's new targeting system, and far more threatening enemies will take time to get used to. Luckily, this guide has the lowdown on all of them. They help you to understand the new system, and get used to the new motives that RE4 introduces, such as it's interactive movie sequences.

The guide gives all the low down on enemies and weapons. You'll know what works, and what doesn't. Easily, this makes this guide pretty handy.

The walkthrough is perhaps the best part of the entire guide. The maps are detailed, pointing out where all the items are. They'll even tell you where random items appear. Before each section there is also an items list so that you don't have to explore through all the maps just to see what items are in an area. They're also nice enough to tell you what enemies you're apt to run into in an area.

The strategies presented in the walkthrough are some of the best. They tell you WHEN you should grab certain weapons (and what happens if you grab it beforehand), they recommend when to buy stuff, and when to sell it, and they keep you one step ahead of the monsters. The boss strategies will ensure that you stay alive. They'll tell you how to avoid one-hit kills, and what weapons deal the best damage.

Finally, once you get to chapter five, the guide explains that the game adjust the difficulty based on your inventory. So if you're not picking up the items the guide points out, they've explained why.

The secrets, and mini-games are incredible. You'll figure out how to unlock all the hidden characters, and the importance of beginning a new game. Easily, this is the best RE guide BradyGAMES has ever put out.

Is it worth the money? I'd say so. If you need a leg up, you'll need this guide. It won't steer you wrong either. You COULD go online and get some of the same info, but I doubt GameFAQs has maps this detailed, screenshots this clear and information this concise.

Also, BradyGAMES finally gets to the point. No more useless up-to-date info. BradyGAMES doesn't just have a reputation for presenting good Resident Evil guides, they also have a reputation for digressing too much. This guide doesn't digress. It stays concise and to the point. You'll be well-prepared for every area you go into, and you won't have to wait for the guide to get to the point.

Grab it. You'll never need another RE4 resource again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed, Precise, Clear., February 6, 2006
This review is from: Resident Evil 4 (Bradygames Signature Series Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
When I first bought this guide, I thought it was going to be like all the other Nintendo guides; typos, useless screenshots and information that I don't need. It was great to discover that one company knew what they were doing when it came to walkthrough-writing.

HIGHLIGHTS

* The maps are incredibly detailed, pointing out the position of every item.
* The art is top quality, and the poster is a nice addition to my wall. :)
* Includes plenty of screenshots detailing what you need to do.
* Has walkthroughs on all unlockables, including Assignment Ada.
* Includes Mercenaries maps and guide. (I was stoked about that one)
* Items section in case you just can't figure out what that certain item is used for.
* Enemies section pointing out weaknesses and attacks.

I've yet to see a guidebook beat this one. It was very well written, and got the job done.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best way to live through Resident Evil 4, July 29, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Resident Evil 4 (Bradygames Signature Series Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
A friend introduced me to Resident Evil 4, and after several gruesome deaths during the course of the game I thought that maybe I should by the walk-through book. I first purchased one from a differant company, but found it to be unsatisfactory, and looked for and located a copy of this Bradygames version, which I have been extremely pleased with. The information and maps provided for game play are excellent, to the point where you can be totally prepared for what's around the next corner if you decide to read ahead, or you can just forge ahead, and then go back and read in the book where you messed up after you die, and do it better the next time. Some people might think it spoils the game to be prepared before hand, but it can easily make the game more enjoyable, and this walk-through definately makes it more so, if you decide to play that way. It's an excellent resource, and a definate must for any serious player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Guide - But do You Need It?, July 9, 2007

The Guide for RE4 is a beautifully rendered one, covering all the places things hide, all the ways to combine items, and how to get every detail out with regard to outfits and the oddity of "other" weapons. The first time you play it you could probably use this, too, but only if you want to make one run at the game and only if you need it to fast-forward all of the puzzles. The problem with this is that a guide is simply a guide and, in the end, RE4 is player-friendly enough that you won't need it. You might need to find out about what to beat to get something bizarre, but there are things in game that allow for everything else.

First, the merchants in the game are really useful and they sell maps that highlight out all the treasure. While this doesn't tell you how to combine everything, you can simply keep all your odd little items and try combining them until you manage a priceless artifact. Second, you can look at the guns and see how they "stat up" to figure out what you want. The guide give advice that works if you want to edge up from one weapon to the other, but some of the weapons are pretty playthings and their use is what makes the experience unique. Third, this is the friendliest game as far as enemies are concerned, and you should be able to beat anything with a little practice and a few lucky shots. The same can be said for the puzzles - none of them are really difficult and finding out stuff on your own makes you feel strong. Finally, just play through the minigames in the game, kick it up and beat the game more than once, and power up your weapons all the way and see what you end up with.

So, you really don't need a guide and maybe you know it. Still, if you have to have one because you just need it or if you are buying this for someone who you might think needs help, it thrives here. This book is sexy, too, and I was impressed by the quality of the maps and the excellent care taken by the designers of the walk-through. I am of the opinion that a walk-through is either (1) a compulsive need to get everything or (2) a way to even the playing field. If you need either one of those, this is a golden ticket out of Las Plaga land. If not, you know how to run and gun.
Regardless, try to run the game first! The play-through is exciting when you have no idea what to expect AND you are better than you think. I wish i could wink when saying this, too, and add "trust me" for good measure. Resident Evil 4

5.0 out of 5 stars this book is a MUST BUY, April 30, 2007
This review is from: Resident Evil 4 (Bradygames Signature Series Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
You can't do anything wrong in Resident Evil 4 as long as you have this guide. The maps show everything down to the ground texture, and the screenshots look like they are still on the TV. The guide covers playing strategies, characters, weapons, enemies, and just about anything else that has to do with the game. Resident Evil 4 is an extremely complex game at times, and this guide makes it a breeze. The only problem that I had was that the first few pages fell out, but the guide is better then any online walkthrough. BUY THIS BOOK!!!

Overall, this is a pretty good strategy guide. If you are just a "dabbler" in the gaming community it is a great tool. I probably would never have made it through the first 10 minutes w/o it!
