Do you want to know how much fun Resident Evil 2 is?

With a total of 4 different possible scenarios as Leon and Claire, 2 minigames involving a soldier and a piece of tofu, loads of replay value, some of the scariest moments you'll ever witness in a videogame, there's nothing to dislike about Resident Evil 2. Well, maybe the dated graphics.

But everything else makes up for it. You start the game as Leon or Claire. Depending on who you choose and what you do, you will slightly alter the story when you finish the game as the second character, ultimately making for 4 total ways to play the game, and 4 *slightly* different endings in total.

RE2 has some of the scariest monsters you will ever encounter, including the Licker, in his first (and only- so far) appearance in a standard RE game. And who can forget the infamous mirror scene... oh, you haven't played it before? Well what are you waiting for?

The Gamecube version has sharper resolution, however everything else about the game remains untouched (unlike Capcom's complete makeover of the original Resident Evil for Gamecube). So if you already own RE2 for Playstation, Nintendo 64 or Dreamcast, there's not much new here... but if you've never played it before, you have no excuse for not getting it... NOW!

Resident Evil 2... If the suspense doesn't kill you, something else will.

Well Capcom has done it again! they have re-released another of the great resident evil series, but is it really worth the money that you paid? Unfortunately, i am starting to question that. i love resident evil, between all the systems that i have, i have every game. i love em, but i must say that i am rather dissappointed with the newest release of RE2. If you have played Zero and RE1 for gamecube, and are expecting those graphics in RE2, then save your money cause they are just not there. Its unfortunate too because those other games kicked some serious zombie A**! but i must say that the arranged game is quite a fun addtion to the game, although it is on the copy of the dreamcast version. if you want to keep your collection or resident evil games going and you have 45 bucks (or so) to spend then pick this game up, but if you budget is tight and you have this game for other systems, then wait and play what you have.

I have it. After beating Resident Evil Zero & the remake of the first, I wanted to jump right in on GC's RE2. There are slightly faster frame rates and a different use of controls to support the GC's controller. That's all.

The RE2 PlayStation Dual Shock Version with the original and rearranged data is the same as this passed off port. I don't need to review the game itself, it is another chapter in the saga that is well-known to fans.

If you don't have a PlayStation1 or 2, then this is a solid buy. If you've never played RE2 and don't have the PS, it is a solid buy again. Whoever is making up the stories about the better graphics or a remake is fooling you.

Don't get me wrong, RE2 is a great game, but it is a port. Graphics, game, content and all. I rated it 3 stars because of the marketing tactic. The original PS version is a 4.5 star game. You'll notice that this review will be posted on Nemesis (RE3) as well because Capcom did the same with that one.

In this game, you take control of a cop called Leon Scott Kennedy, who is in his first day of job; and a woman named Claire Redfield looking for her brother Chris Redfield (one of the main character of the original game). Unfortunately, they're both unlucky. The whole Raccoon City is infected by a new virus, who turn people into zombies, dogs into monstruous creatures, and other horrendous monsters. Considered by many the best Resident Evil charpter ever, it's finally on the Nintendo GameCube... Let's check out what's it all about:
- Graphics: Ok, this is the worse part in here, but it's not that bad. Do you notice any differences in this graphics and PSOne's, talking about this game? Yes, you do.. But it's not a big difference, not a thing to notice at first. In the GameCube version, the characters' and monsters' faces can be seen clearly, unlike in the PSOne versions. Background is the same as PSOne's. So, if you were expecting a graphic evolution like from PSOne's Resident Evil to GameCube's, then I'm sorry.. You'll be disappointed in the graphical part.
- Sound: There is not a difference between this version and PSOne's if you're talking about sound. Sometimes the music can be too loud when characters are speaking, so you won't understand wha they're saying. But that's no problem. Just ajust the sound effects and you're done. The soundtrack is scary and classical, voice acting is not bad either.
- Fun: It's such a great thing to play this fine Resident Evil charpter with the awesome GameCube controller. It feels like a new game. Even though I've played (and beaten) this game before in the PSOne, I must say that I was still scared of those weird corridors with that scary soundtrack. The game story is really good. Overall, this game is really fun if you're a Resident Evil fan. You have to beat the game twice with every character, because both have 2 scenarios, and you will not know the whole story if you don't finnish the game's four scenaries. Plus there are three mini-games. One of them is called Extreme Battle. In this one, you'll have to take and plant bombs all around the RPD, but time is limited so you have to hurry. This game can be played with many characters, incluiding Chris Redfield. Another one is called Hunk - The 4th Survivor. In this mini-game, you must get to the helicopter room, so they will rescue you (you are Hunk, the only one who survived trying to take the G-Virus from William Birkin), but it's not that easily because they have really few items and lots of zombies. The other mode is almost the same thing, except that the difficulty is extreme and you play as To-Fu (a cheese, yes), and the mini-game is called Tofu- The Survivor. Still, it's far from being my favorite Resident Evil charpter.
- Educative: Ok, this game is not educative, not at all.. Lots of blood, violence, body parts falling down zombies, heads cut off and all this kind of thing, that you'll see in nearly every Resident Evil game. But there is no cussing in this game. So, parents... you should only buy this game if your children have played this kind of games before and if they do not get scared easily, unless they'll have nightmares, lots of 'em...
The veredict: Resident Evil 2 i very cool game, it's in the Top 10 of the Best PSOne Games Ever. So it can't be bad... If you've played Resident Evil 2 before and you own an authentic copy for another plataform (PSOne, Dreamcast, Nintendo64 or PC), I don't think you should buy this game unless you want the whole series in the GameCube console (which is my case, because I bought the GameCube to play the whole Resident Evil series in it). If you've never played it or if you do not own this game for other plataform, it is a must-buy. One of the best Survival Horror games ever. In this game, if the suspense doesn't kill you... something else will.

First i'll talk about the price...do not buy from amazon....period. Just run down to your local Gamestop ( if you got one ) and pick up it for 30 bucks ( maybe used ). People are either trying to rip you off or have made a typo.

Anyways...great game...one of the first I played in the series. Probably this one has the most item finding. Good game though.

Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield are about to have one helluva night in Raccoon City. Upon both of their arrivals, they come face to face with terrorfying zombies that were once the citizens of the city! RE 2 takes the player through both Leon's and Claire's fear inducing, action packed scenarios to uncover what happened in Raccoon, find Claire's brother - one of the heroes in Resident Evil 1 - all while trying to survive.

The gameplay still remains as great as it was in this PS-to-Gamecube port. You choose a character, be it Leon or Claire, run around, solve puzzles, collect items and weapons like herbs, shotguns, upgrades for the handguns, etc all while shooting up zombies & other monsters that will surley freak you out in some way. If you beat the game with a certain rank, you can unlock the Hunk & Tofu missions (yes, Tofu is literally a big piece of tofu with a beret on lol) where basically you have to just get to the roof using a limited supply of weapons and healing items.

I'll admit, I'm a bit dissapointed with the graphics. Back when the game was first made I was amazed at how everything looked.. but that was back in what, 1997? Compared to today's graphic standards, Resident Evil 2 is a joke with extremley pixalated characters and blood, not to mention the characters mouths dont even move. You really wont be amazed with the graphics at all unless you are looking for some nostalgia like I was.

The sound effects and music are still awesome. The guns still sound powerful, and the voice acting (except when Leon screams "ADA!" at the end of the game) is still really good. The sounds of zombies moaning, Lickers' claws tapping cement, and the other ghoulish SFX made by the monsters still spook me a bit. The music is interesting to say the least. Sometimes you are given a welcoming, soft tune one minute then turn around to be trapped in a devastating, soul shattering, haunting tune. I love it!

To end my review, I really suggest if you haven't played Resident Evil 2 by now then the Gamecube version is perfect for you. To other RE fans, you may just want to rent it to say you played it again... I on the other hand loved this game.

I am a big RE fan and when I herd that they were making the set on GC I was excited.I loved the REzero and the remake of the first RE, I wonted to jump to this one so I rented it and it was the same as the PS version.I am not giving this item a bad star rating because I do not like the game but because this one for game cube is the samething and do not bother to try RE3 because they did the samething to that one to.So insted of paying 125.00 Dollars or 99.00 Dollars just get the PS version of RE2 and RE3 for 6.00 or less but these games are a must have either way.

well what can i say except that i am quite disappointed with the newest enstalment of RE2. Dont get me wrong, i love resident evil, but after seeing the work that was done with zero and with RE1, i have to admit that seeing RE2 as i would if i was playing my dreamcast is quite a let down. if you love resident evil you should own this game because well, its a great game, but if you are tight on money and have it already for another system, then go ahead and wait because you'll basically be buying the same game.

The remake of the original Resident Evil for the gamecube was nothing short of amazing. Resident Evil 0 followed the innovations that had been made with the original remake, and further expanded upon them. So naturally when I heard Resident Evil 2, 3 and Code Veronica would be making their way to the Gamecube I had high expectations. However it became clear that these would not be the same great remakes that they were first perceived to be. In fact they weren't remakes at all. Capcom simply ported all three of the games to gamecube discs, and then released them for $40.00 (!) each. That's a steep price considering most of us played this game when it was originally released on PSX back in 1997. The motivation behind these "re-releases" was simply to introduce the entire series of Resident Evil games to the market who may not have played them on the Playstation, but had played the original remake or Resident Evil 0 on Gamecube. While you should not buy this game if you already own the original on the PSX (like I said it's the same EXACT game), if you never played the original RE2, then this is a good chance to get to know this classic.

About the game first. This is indeed one of the highlights of the Resident Evil series. Most fans regard this as the best RE game to have ever been released. While I'm still partial to RE 1 myself, I would have to agree on some levels that indeed Resident Evil 2 is the series' shining point. The innovative idea of having the two main characters' stories (Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield for those who haven't played) intertwine with one another was genius. In reality you can play this game 4 different times (2x with each character) and get a somewhat different story line each time. To fully appreciate this game, you have to understand the time it came from. In 1997, graphically this was one of the best games to ever be released on the playstation. The zombies were scarier than they had ever been in the original game, and the environments that Capcom created for the city were genuinely creepy, not to mention introducing new enemies like the licker. The FMV sequences were stunning for the time, and really propelled the game into the position as front runner of the "survival horror" genre. Leon and Claire were rendered perfectly, and their interactions with the surroundings were stellar.

Control wise the game is exactly like every other RE game you've ever played. The GC version simply uses the control layout found in the RE remake and RE 0. At first to those who haven't played a RE title before, the controls may seem awkward, but since I'm guessing that most of the people who bought or are going to buy this game had played at least one of the Gamecube RE games, there should be no problems for anyone. The controls do take some time to get used to, but they quickly become second nature, and after you've played at least one RE game, you should instantly pick it back up every time you turn it on.

The story found in Resident Evil 2 is a definite highlight. Basically following the incident that happened at the mansion in the first game with Chris and Jill, the T-Virus has been released into Racoon city, and zombies are now walking the streets. Fate brings together (and quickly pulls apart) Leon Kennedy, a rookie police officer from the Racoon City Police Department, and Claire Redfield, the sister of Chris Redfield from the first game, who is determined to find her missing brother. They both understand they must get out of the city alive, and after a car crash at the beginning of the game, they are forced to go their own ways (more will make since if you play the game, I don't want to ruin the story.) From there both pretty much have to do their best to stay alive, while finding other survivors, and making their way out of town. However that's no easy task.

Now on the reasons to buy or not to buy. If you never owned the original Resident Evil 2 on PSX, or don't own a playstation 1 or 2, then I guess this is a good game to buy. However the $40.00 price tag is pretty ridiculous, seeing as this game is almost ten years old. If you can find one for a reasonable price (around the $20-25 price range) then I would recommend you get it, especially if you haven't played this game before. It is truly one of the most innovative installments the series has produced thus far, and is a must play for fans of the RE series.

The thing that really bugs me about this release is that Capcom had so much that could have been done with this game, but simply chose not to. Ok I understand not reworking the story, or adding new areas and stuff, but at least touch up the graphics, and make stuff faster. Lets be honest, this game looks like it came from the stone age compared to anything that's on the gaming market right now, and it's pretty lame that Capcom didn't at least make an effort to make the game better. Had they have done that, it might have made this purchase necessary. However since they chose not to, this is a skip, especially if you already have it.

Still even though Capcom put no effort into this re-release, I still have a hard time giving this game a bad score because I love it so much. This is still one of my favorite games from the series, and was truly a masterpiece when it came out 8 years ago. If you somehow don't own a Playstation one, and you have never played this game (and you can find one for a reasonable price) this is a great buy, because the game is definitely a great piece of entertainment. I can't help but feel a bit of resentment though towards Capcom for doing this, especially to die hard fans like myself who played the original on the Playstation years ago. Basically this game is only a ploy to get those who were new to the series to buy the re-releases. You've been warned. Still a classic game though.

This was the first RE game I ever played, and from the moment I started it I loved it. The graphics looked excellent back in 1998, and while not as good now, it does not take away from how great this game is. You start out as Leon or Claire, the sister of Chris Redfield from RE1, and you have to fight your through to the police station for safety, but instead of being saved, it gets worse. There are many twists and turns that appear in the game, but it is a very fun game, and one I personally have beatman 57 times thus far. I highly recommend it for any RE fan, but chances are, you have played it by now.

On another note, this game was ported over to the GameCube, but for a rip off price of $40. It just gets worse from there because I was not willing to pay $40 for it, and now people are trying to rip everyone off by selling it for $130, $140, etc. Anything above $30 is a rip off when you can get a PS1 version for $6 at your local GameStop. I don't know what gives sellers the right to price a game, A GAME, that high. This isn't ebay. If you want that price, put it up on auction and let it go that high if people want to get ripped off.
