5.0 out of 5 stars game good, collectors not
This installment to the series is so far one of the best I've played via co-op online. Single player is ok too, but your computer helper loves wasting precious ammo. I give the game 5 out of 5 Stars but the collectors edition is not worth paying an extra 30 for. The figurine's knife handle was already broken out of the box, the bag is like any cheap bag, and the...

This review is from: Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition (Video Game)
This installment to the series is so far one of the best I've played via co-op online. Single player is ok too, but your computer helper loves wasting precious ammo. I give the game 5 out of 5 Stars but the collectors edition is not worth paying an extra 30 for. The figurine's knife handle was already broken out of the box, the bag is like any cheap bag, and the necklace and patch aren't all that great. The only real reason to get it is for the limited edition steel case. Very nice, other than that nothing. Bonus disc is a disappointment. Other than trailers to the other R.E. movies, pictures of the game scenery and characters, and a making of video aren't worth it. I guess seeing that it was on a Blue Ray disc it makes it worth more but the content isn't all that great. Not to bring down on the making, I know they put a lot of money and effort into it and my hats off to them, the marketing of the collectors edition could have been dealt with better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Evil for a New Generation, March 16, 2009

Survival horror has gotten the ultimate face lift in Resident Evil 5...

The only problem is, it's no longer about survival horror.

Being a fan of the series since I first played Resident Evil: Director's Cut back on the PSX days, there was a lot of expectation to live up to in Resident Evil 5. The game itself was executed well -- constant action, great graphics, and high production value (the cinematics are surprisingly well done with a very Hollywood movie feel), but the experience falls short in my book.

Forgettable characters, a forced storyline (not to mention a 60 second ending), terrible single player AI (your partner), and lack of innovation gets this game 3 stars. Also, since when was Resident Evil an action game? Where's the horror? Heads up Capcom, chaos is not horror -- it's just stressful. 5 is basically a clone of it's Game Cube predecessor with co-op and a makeover.

Don't get me wrong, it was fun -- but not in the awe-inspiring way Resident Evil 4 was. As a hardcore gamer, I expect nothing but the best from a big name like Resident Evil, and with the fifth installment I was left saying...

"...Really?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Collector's edition stole my money!, April 6, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition (Video Game)
Here's a short review:

Fantastic game, but a waste of money if you buy the collector's edition. The only thing redeeming is the metal case, but still not worth it.

You cant run and shoot? SO WHAT! :)

Premise
*You play Chris Redfield (hero of the "Resident Evil" series overall), who is tasked with going to Africa to track down a fugitive. Joining a local agent named Sheva Alomar, the two discover an outbreak of lethal genetically-engineered viruses that can re-animate the dead. Fighting through the hordes of zombies, mutants, and massive monsters, they eventually confront the masterminds behind the viruses.

The Good Things
*Video/sound quality are excellent. Graphics are detailed, rich, and smooth.
*This package includes a bonus DVD with some making-of footage; both the game and the DVD are housed in an awesome metal case, the same size as any other PS3 game. It also includes a necklace, a small courier bag, a BSSA badge, and a small figurine.
*Includes in-game collectables, alternate costumes, graphic filters, and cheats that can be unlocked. I believe it has unlockable behind-the-scenes content as well.
*Includes a co-op mode, allowing other online users to play the game with you. Once you finish the story, other online games become available.
*The story is immersive and interesting. They are structured into sixteen chapters, each with three stages; it's easy to track your progress, and you can replay completed chapters anytime you want.
*Cutscenes are not bad. Some of the fight scenes are awesome. Some scenes require you to push buttons and interact with the action (although this may also throw you off).
*Item management is a nifty tool. You are able to buy and sell things, and you can upgrade your weapons to be more powerful (upgrading all the way will also allow you to unlock unlimited ammo for that specific gun). Above all, it allows you to manage you and your partner's inventory.
*Level designs are good. They all contain challenges that require the two main characters to work together. They are all fairly linear, but look great with lots of realistic-looking details.
*Characters are good, well-developed, and emotional.
*Music is good.
*Has trophies.

The Bad Things
*I found parts of the story utterly predictable. Other parts are kind of dumb (if a man you hated threw his sunglasses at you, would you catch them? Chris did).
*I almost didn't buy this game for one reason; you can't move and shoot at the same time! You have to stand still to use your weapons or reload them, by which time, you may be attacked. It can be unnerving, but once I got into the game, it turned out to be no big deal.
*Finding ammo can be a challenge, especially since you can't buy any for some odd reason.
*Not for kids; rated M for blood, violence, and lots of gross monsters.

The Questionable Things
*Overall, the game is nowhere near as scary as I thought it would be. It has a lot of violence and grotesque monsters, but the gameplay reminded me more of "Metal Gear Solid" than it did any other horror game. I found it enjoyable and rewarding this way, but anybody looking for really scary content may be dissapointed.
*AI is not bad, but you can't control your partner's actions. She may waste ammo and health pickups when you don't want her to. Oh well.

This is the first "Resident Evil" game I've played; I was expecting something scarier and more frustrating. As it is, this game is an awesome, mesmerizing adventure with a strong story, lots of action, and a cast of very strong characters. I thought that the control scheme would ruin the whole thing for me (especially since you can't run and shoot at the same time...ugh!), but I adapted to it and enjoyed the game anyway. A number of in-game features (unlockable content and trophies) makes me want to play is over and over again. I honestly couldn't get enough of it; I was completely addicted to this game, and would highly reccomend it to any gamer.

The luxury package is good. The game is good, but not the best of the series. Good graphics, good story, but definitely not the best of the series. I really expected much more and in this version removes all parts of the riddles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Resident Evil 5 - PS3 game, September 8, 2009

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition (Video Game)
While some people did not like this addition to the RE world, i loved this game. The updated graphics and controls made the game enjoyable and engaging. i LOVED the fact that you were now able to play multiplayer through out the whole game (perhaps the best feature).

The cinematics and music were highly enjoyable. The action was frenetic as you now have to organise your inventory while in game, share items, work in tandem with your partner and look for ways to use the environment to your advantage. While the most enjoyable aspect of the game was the co-op, the single player was still fun and there are HEAPS of things to unlock.

Following more in the footsteps of RE 4 than the original RE games, this game has more action and less exploring/backtracking. A different style of game play, i still found it highly enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Game, June 1, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition (Video Game)
First things first, this is not a survival horror game. That being said it is an excellent action game. It was good enough for me to play through probably 5 times to get all the weapons and trophies. Great production value and voiceovers, Capcom spent the time on this baby. Some B-Movie elements but this is Resident Evil after all. Overall - Highly Recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars RE5 Rocks, May 8, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition (Video Game)
This game is a 100/100 on singleplayer/co-op story mode. If you buy the multiplayer pack for $5, you got screwed. This game is so much fun but the Versus mode is horrible. I give Versus mode a 50/100. Other than that the graphics, the gameplay, and voice talking is flawless.
