If you buy it in 3D you can watch it now in 2D and then later in 3D when you upgrade your equipment. If you buy the 2D disc version then you will have to purchase the movie again if you ever go 3D.

What they should do is release 2-D and 3-D versions together so you can buy them at once. If you don't have anything 3-D yet, you might one day. Especially Resident Evil Afterlife which had excellent 3-D, and Avatar. The editions available now are only in 2-D though...
