New Enemies and Familiar Faces
Unlike the evil enemies you fought against in the previous story, in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, players will fight against the characters' own inner demons, adding a whole new level of terror. Balancing this out, two of the most popular characters of the overall series and heroes of the beloved Resident Evil 2, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, make their return. As unconventional heroes, the two start out the game as ordinary individuals who are thrown into terrorizing situations where their own fear is their biggest enemy. Featuring a brand new storyline that will fill in missing pieces of the "Chronicles" series, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles leads players into a horrific world where the lines between good and evil are blurred and the fight begins with your dark side.

Rail Shooter Action with New Features
The game's arcade, rail shooter gameplay, first featured in Resident Evil:The Umbrella Chronicles, in which players follow a set path through the game, has been radically upgraded in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. Along with this, the game contains a horde of new features, including the major additions of a sub-screen which allows for weapon configuration and use of recovery items regardless of time progression, and a new system that allows players to modify the difficulty level according to their playing skills that brings accessibility and fun to both the hardcore and casual gamer alike.

Coop Gameplay
Continuing in the survival horror tradition, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles increases the thrills and chills with an enhanced two-player co-op mode in which players will be able to follow their partners on the same screen. Their conversations and interactions have also been improved to create a more intense co-op experience.

More Frightening Than Ever
A more terrifying experience than ever before, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles combines a shaky and realistic handheld camera experience with an eerie soundtrack and creepy sound effects utilizing state-of-the-art technology.

3.0 out of 5 stars 1 step forward 3 steps back, December 6, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (Video Game)
Darkside chronicles is not as good as Umbrella Chronicles.

1.) The graphics are superior but the satisfying sound of scoring a critical hit isn't there and that was the most satisfying part of Umbrella Chronicles

2.) The control is give and take, weapon selection is much easier but grenades aren't as fluid because you have to select them and use them with the button instead of using the nunchuck, it's baffling why they would abandon their fun and effective motion controls.

3.) The explosive weapons, particularly grenades and grenade launchers, are all but useless since splash damage is pathetically under implemented.

4,)The camera, dear Christ, the camera, whichever developer(s) thought it would be a good idea to move the camera around the environment like caffeine addled ten year old needs to be shot.

5.) The obsession with creating a cinematic experience fills the gameplay with frustration. For example: for no good reason whatsoever the last two bosses are invulnerable to gunfire even when their health bar is displayed. Good luck figuring out when 'cause chances are you'll dump hundreds of rounds fruitlessly into their carcass.

The cinematic experience also ruins the other boss battles because just emptying their health bar isn't enough you have to follow a ridiculous scripting of events and, oh yeah, even when their health bar is drained they can still kill you. It is frustrating beyond words to fight a boss and lose despite reducing their HP to 0 because you didn't properly perform their arbitrary scripted sequence. Not only does this become annoying but it makes the more powerful, slow moving weapons like the RPG useless because you have to go through that abitrary sequence instead of outright killing them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better the 2nd time around, November 20, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (Video Game)
The first RE shooter game on Wii was pretty decent, if not just a typical on-rails shooter. The sequel, however, ups the ante with better graphics, a more cohesive flow to the narrative, and an overall more enjoyable experience than the first. The "shaky-cam" that has been the subject of many reviews and previews can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. Yes, it can be irritating when you can't line up shots properly because the camera starts acing up, but on the other hand it adds a sense of panic and realism to the experience and makes you feel like you're right in on the action. If you stick with it, you'll get used to it and appreciate the package more. Another great Wii game and highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely better than the first, November 19, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (Video Game)
At the time of writing this review, I have only beaten 4 or 5 levels, but that feels like enough to make this review, so others will know a bit more about the game. First off, the graphics are TERRIFIC, compared to the first game. The gameplay is about the same (it's a rail-shooter after all)(for those who don't know what a rail-shooter is: a "rail-shooter" is a first person perspective game that gives a targeting cursor on the screen. For this game and "Umbrella Chronicles", you use the Wii remote by pointing where you want to shoot and press the 'B' button. The camera moves on a predetermined path and you have no control when the camera moves. That's a "rail-shooter" summed up for you). Speaking of the Wii remote, the NEW feature that I noticed (and love) is: you are able to assign four weapons to the Wii remote's D-Pad. During the game, when you want a particular weapon, all you need to do is tap that particular D-Pad direction. (In "Umbrella Chronicles", you had to cycle through your weapons, that was time-consuming and annoying.) Another thing that I noticed is, it seems, that you can no longer perform "counter attacks" (like in "Umbrella Chronicles"). While that isn't too bad, it just means you have to be quicker on the trigger. Also, head shots do seem a little easier than in "Umbrella Chronicles".

In short, I'm very happy with this game. I definitely recommend it to any fans of the Resident Evil franchise. To others who are not fans, but are looking for a good rail-shooter, or are looking for an overview of Resident Evil 2 and 4 (If I remember correctly, those two Resident Evil titles should be the focus of this game (like Resident Evil 1 and 3 was the focus of "Umbrella Chronicles")), this game should do the trick.

If you buy the game: HAVE FUN!

EDIT: this game does not feature levels from Resident Evil 4.
