5.0 out of 5 stars Resident Evil: Dead Aim, proves not all gun survivors suck!, October 8, 2003
By
ronnie (Dayton, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Resident Evil: Dead Aim (Video Game)
Resident Evil: Dead Aim (Gun Survivor 4)

Introduction - I want to start of by saying this more than a gun survivor. It's one hundred times better than all the past gun survivors fit together. Crisp graphics, nice sound, and an overall great performance. Let's round it up....

Graphics 9 out of 10 - Very excellent and crisp. You could put all the resident Evil games on the sony consoles together and they still wouldn't be this good. The graphics on the Playstation 2 are really pushed to it's limits. The only flaw in graphics is sometimes you can see zombie's heads go through walls and you can tend to walk through dead zombie bodies, but besides that there is no real flaw in the graphics.

Sound 8 out of 10 - It did lack some music. At some parts it would be too quiet. I think some heavy metal music thrown into a resident evil game would be pretty sweet. The footstep sounds were right on time and you could here the zombie and monster groans from around the corner and you could tell they were coming and all the weapons sound sounded authentic enough for me so sound was not all that bad.

Controls 7 out of 10 - I gave this one a lower score because at some parts, you can't aim correctly, but thats probably on my part because I use an analog controller and I need to buy a Guncon 2 because I've heard it's better and it's a whole different experience with the Guncon 2. Overall the controls are decent for a gun survivor such as this.

Gameplay 6 out of 10 - This one got the lowest score because of the big flaw of not enough gameplay to go around. This game is really great to add to a big resident Evil fan's collection but at some parts, you might get bored and the other big flaw is that its WAY TOO SHORT. The storyline is okay and all, but I mean come on wheres the hours and hours of gameplay you could get from Resident Evil 2 or 3? This game only took me 56 minutes my first time playing it to beat it. This game doesn't have many puzzles if there is any at all. Yes, you got to find keys, but the keys aren't even that challenging to find. Even the hard mode isn't even that hard.

Overall 8 out of 10 - The game is good and replayability is very good since as all resident evil games, certain ranks will give you certain cool prizes at the end such as infinite ammo for guns and so on. If your a hardcore resident Evil fan, then buy this. Otherwise, rent it because you can beat it easily 4 or 5 times within the 5 day period of returning the game. It's replayability is even better with the guncon 2.

SEPERATE REVIEW FOR GUNCON 2 ACCESSORY:

Introduction - Since the Guncon 2 is an essential part of experiencing Dead Aim, I've included a review for the GunCon as well.

I give GunCon 2 10 out of 10 - A perfect 10 for a perfect control. You might be thinking "If I have only a gun in my hand, how in the world am I going to walk around and stuff." Simple, the GunCon has a stick that makes it easy to manuever your character and pick up items and so on. The GunCon 2 in a great addition even though there isn't that many games that need a GunCon 2 yet, but they'll be coming soon. Time Crisis 1, 2, and 3 all can be played with a guncon and Assault Ninja can also be played with a Guncon 2.

PLEASE NOTE YOU DO NOT NEED A GUNCON 2 TO PLAY RESIDENT EVIL: DEAD AIM. YOU CAN PLAY IT WILL AN ANALOG CONTROLLER OR PS2 USB MOUSE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not half bad, October 16, 2003

This review is from: Resident Evil: Dead Aim (Video Game)
Ok, I want to suggest something to you, and I think for your best interest you should take it to heart. I suggest that you completely ignore all the bad reviews for this game, because most of them are just whining and crying about how short this game is. There are shorter games out there than this, so no one has a good excuse to complain. That being said, this game is the best out of the Gun Survivor genre. It has majorly improved over what Resident Evil: Survivor was for the PS1, and I realize that for some of you that isn't saying much. Well understand this, the PS1 only has so much to work with, and they did the best they could with that game so deal with it. It was a pretty entertaining game, but Dead Aim takes it one step further, combining third-person and first-person perspectives. How this is done is that you're in third-person most of the time, like you were in all the other Resident Evil games without the static camera (excluding Code Veronica X because that one had no static camera). The camera follows you around the whole time, but once you aim your gun at a zombie it switches over to the first-person view, allowing you to see the zombie full-on before you blow its brains out. The graphics here are really good for a game such as this, and you will especially recognize it when you literally come face to face with an undead creature. Their tattered clothes look more realistic as well as their ghastly faces. And if you shoot one in the leg, it will walk slower, if you manage to shoot a powerful shot and/or shoot it in the head enough times, it will send the zombie flying back against the wall. This creates a little more realism for sure. But if you're thinking zombies are all you're going to be shooting, you're wrong. You will come across Hunters (mutant frogs of some sort, and my favorite enemy out of any Resident Evil game, like you care but I know you do), Nautilus/Torpedo Kids (medium sized creature, the Torpedo Kids are what it produces, and these shoot towards you in a torpedo-like motion, hence the name) Glimmers (smaller versions of the Hunters but way faster and harder to kill, their distinct feature is their blurring red eyes) and Halbert (large annoying bees). And there are four bosses total. The only interaction you will really have with the environment is if you shoot a fuel barrel or something, but that is good enough because if you shoot one close to a zombie, it will knock it right off of its feet. The gameplay in this game is really good, as is the replayability. The higher game rank you get the more stuff you recieve, such as unlimited ammo. Even on easy mode, Dead Aim is somewhat challenging. The storyline is told nicely enough, but I must say it could have been done a little better. For one, the acting is still a little off, and two when you turn the subtitles on, they hardly match what the characters are saying (this is the only reason why I gave this game 4 out of 5). As far as the controls are concerned, I hear it's better when you use the GunCom2, but I'm sticking with the DualShock and it's just as good. At some points it can be a little frustrating to control but with time and patience you'll get the hang of it. Overall, this game is a must buy, and I wouldn't pay any attention to anyone who says otherwise because they don't know a good game when they see one. If you're a fan of Resident Evil like I am, you should definitely buy Dead Aim ASAP.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A GAME!!, June 19, 2003
By
M. Teasdale "DTO" (Waukesha, Wi United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Resident Evil: Dead Aim (Video Game)
this game is amazing. i love this game. i have never played survivor so i cannot compare them. but i will explain about this. the game is all in 3rd person. but lets say u see a zombie, u can press the trigger on ur gun to enter "shoot" mode. this allows u to actually attack the zombies and creatures.IT DOES NOT CHANGE VIEWS AUTOMATICALLY. IT IS MANUALLY, SO U CAN RUN PAST THEM IF U WANT. IT ALSO ALLOWS U TO WALK FOWARD WHILE U ARE IN "SHOOT" MODE. THE THING I LIKE A BUNCH ABOUT THIS GAME IS THAT THE PUZZLES ARE EASIER. the 1st resident evil was good but u had to have a guide to beat it. in this i am able to beat it without a guide. im not saying the game is easy, im saying it is fun because u do not have to worry about have a key with an embleme shape in a room where the pictures need to be rearanged in an order. no none of that. i recomend this game if u love horror games with between moderate-lots of action, and love a cool adventure. THE ONLY DOWNFALL ON THIS GAME ARE THE MODEL GRAPHICS. THEY REALLY [are bad]. BUT EVERYTHING ELSE IS GOOD. THE BOAT GRAPHCIC(THE GAME IS BASED ON A BOAT), THE LIGHTING IS AMAZING, THE WATER IS WELL DONE BUT THE MODEL GRAPHICS ON THE 2 MAIN CHARACTERS ARE THE ONLY DISSAPPOINTMENT.
