Amazon.com Product Description

Resident Evil: Gaiden features well-known characters Barry Burton and Leon Kennedy in a game that combines the survival-horror and first-person-shooter genres. It includes three playable characters: Barry Burton, Leon Kennedy, and the new character, Lucia. Dramatic slide-show animations provide background. The challenging gameplay includes such actions as finding keys, putting out fires, and switching on power generators. It also features all of the mind-bending puzzles that players have come to expect from the Resident Evil series. As players explore, they view their character and surroundings in 3-D isometric view. When battles take place, the action shifts to first-person mode. With strong graphics and a detailed story line, Resident Evil: Gaiden offers an unusually deep experience for the portable console.

The story begins inside the hideout of the legendary S.T.A.R.S. elite attack force as one of the original members, Barry Burton, discusses a distressing problem with a mysterious elderly woman. A new type of B.O.W. (Bio Organic Weapon) has been developed by the insidious Umbrella Corporation and is believed to be onboard the luxury cruise liner Starlight. Starlight has already begun its voyage to Europe and now rests somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic. Leon S. Kennedy, the star of Resident Evil 2, was assigned to eliminate the B.O.W. His last communication confirmed that he was aboard the Starlight, but he hasn't been heard from since. In addition, Barry can't figure out why a poem he learned as a child suddenly has returned to him: "I loathe the ocean and the secrets it holds, forever deep, dark, and cold." Have the horrors of Raccoon City returned?

5.0 out of 5 stars Resident Evil Gaiden for Gameboy color, June 7, 2002
This review is from: Resident Evil Gaiden (Game Cartridge)
At first when I bought this game, I played it for 5 minutes and thought it was a BUST. I picked it back up and played for half an hour and found out that it is probably one of the best games for GBC ever made. It has features that are similar to the original R.E. seriers (herbs, weapons, ect.) and some that are not (1st person battle mode, no "classic" loading time.) It's well worth [the money], but it does take more than 5 min. to get into. Overall, it's a really fun game!

I am a GBC and a GBA owner. I recently bought this game, and played it on the GBA. With sunlight, and a desk light, I couldn't see a thing. On the GBC, it was Golden. This game is clearly meant for GBC. oTHER than the GBA-GBC factor, this game is awsome. If u have a GBA, and you have a GREAT light, you can buy it, if your desperate, but if not, please, dont waste ur money. If youre a GBC owner, GET THIS GAME! no further comment, but this game is amazingly good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Resident Evil Gaiden on GBC, August 17, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Resident Evil Gaiden (Game Cartridge)
To be quite honest, I love this game and no matter how much of a bad rep it gets, thats not gonna change the fact that this is masterpiece. The thing is, these days there is all of the new systems and games(not to trash the PS3) that nobody takes the time to give the so-called old games a chance to show their stuff. That is exactly whats going on here, thats why I'm doing this review, to show you that this game is great and that you'll love it if you give it a chance. So here you go, my review on Resident Evil Gaiden.

The story: Barry Burton, one of the members of the famous S.T.A.R.S from the original tale of survival horror, Resident Evil, is sent to investigate the dissapearance of Leon, the hero of the second Resident Evil. Leon was supposed to be aboard of the luxery cruise liner the STARLIGHT, tracking a B.O.W that is running loose on board. It is now up to Barry to find Leon and terminate the B.O.W, but has a poem Barry learned as a child come back to haunt him?

Graphics: the graphics are clean and very colorful, this really makes the experiance fun and interesting. I really admire the attention to detail through-out the cut-scenes and the first-person mode is pretty well done as well.

Sound: The music is dark and creepy, kind of like halloween. The weapons sound realistic and pretty cool, great for a GBC game.

Gameplay: The exploration is fun and exciting in the way that you never know what you're gonna find. The combat has sort of an RPG feel in the way that an enemy can touch you and a battle will start(this can also be done from a distance by taking aim and targeting one of the plentiful zombies).
The subject of battle is an interesting one, the shooting and slashing are done in a detailed first person mode, where a targeting reticule moves back and forth while you try and hit the enemy's range of fire in the middle to attempt a head shot(if you are successful, you will be rewarded with a grousome sight of blood shooting from the enemy's head).

My conclusion is that if you like the Resident evil series, get the this game today. You are going to be amazed at its endless ability to totally freak you out, you are really gonna love this game!
