5.0 out of 5 stars Resident Evil Gaiden for Gameboy color
At first when I bought this game, I played it for 5 minutes and thought it was a BUST. I picked it back up and played for half an hour and found out that it is probably one of the best games for GBC ever made. It has features that are similar to the original R.E. seriers (herbs, weapons, ect.) and some that are not (1st person battle mode, no "classic" loading time.) It's...

I can't honestly see how Resident Evil Survivor got lower scores than this game. This game stars Leon Kennedy (The guy from RE2 and 4) and the game begins on a ship filled with zombies and you must make your way through it. Sounds like a good old-fashioned zombie slaughter-fest right? Unfortunately, mostly that's wrong. This game features perhaps the stupidest method of...

I am a GBC and a GBA owner. I recently bought this game, and played it on the GBA. With sunlight, and a desk light, I couldn't see a thing. On the GBC, it was Golden. This game is clearly meant for GBC. oTHER than the GBA-GBC factor, this game is awsome. If u have a GBA, and you have a GREAT light, you can buy it, if your desperate, but if not, please, dont waste ur money. If youre a GBC owner, GET THIS GAME! no further comment, but this game is amazingly good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Resident Evil Gaiden on GBC, August 17, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Resident Evil Gaiden (Game Cartridge)
To be quite honest, I love this game and no matter how much of a bad rep it gets, thats not gonna change the fact that this is masterpiece. The thing is, these days there is all of the new systems and games(not to trash the PS3) that nobody takes the time to give the so-called old games a chance to show their stuff. That is exactly whats going on here, thats why I'm doing this review, to show you that this game is great and that you'll love it if you give it a chance. So here you go, my review on Resident Evil Gaiden.

The story: Barry Burton, one of the members of the famous S.T.A.R.S from the original tale of survival horror, Resident Evil, is sent to investigate the dissapearance of Leon, the hero of the second Resident Evil. Leon was supposed to be aboard of the luxery cruise liner the STARLIGHT, tracking a B.O.W that is running loose on board. It is now up to Barry to find Leon and terminate the B.O.W, but has a poem Barry learned as a child come back to haunt him?

Graphics: the graphics are clean and very colorful, this really makes the experiance fun and interesting. I really admire the attention to detail through-out the cut-scenes and the first-person mode is pretty well done as well.

Sound: The music is dark and creepy, kind of like halloween. The weapons sound realistic and pretty cool, great for a GBC game.

Gameplay: The exploration is fun and exciting in the way that you never know what you're gonna find. The combat has sort of an RPG feel in the way that an enemy can touch you and a battle will start(this can also be done from a distance by taking aim and targeting one of the plentiful zombies).
The subject of battle is an interesting one, the shooting and slashing are done in a detailed first person mode, where a targeting reticule moves back and forth while you try and hit the enemy's range of fire in the middle to attempt a head shot(if you are successful, you will be rewarded with a grousome sight of blood shooting from the enemy's head).

My conclusion is that if you like the Resident evil series, get the this game today. You are going to be amazed at its endless ability to totally freak you out, you are really gonna love this game!

2.0 out of 5 stars right game wrong system/storyline, April 6, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

Wow i had no idea what to expect going into this game because it is a Resident evil title on the game boy color. CONS: bad graphic, storyline has no relevance towards past and future titles, bad checkpoint system, overly difficult, repetitive, backtracking. PROS none..so why did i pay $30 for this game,, simply to warn you not to buy it. i own an like almost every other Resident evil game ever made. so when i say this game is a short irrelevant mistake not even made by capcom you shouldnt waste your time. (only 2hrs to beat game, no replay value) there is 2 bosses in the game an you fight the same one 7 times before finishing the game. this game is useless avoid it like the plague

This game features perhaps the stupidest method of killing zombies I have ever seen (Let alone any game I've played). Here's how it works; there is a strange scale with a rectangular thing that goes back and forth on the scale and since your enemies are in front of you, you can only hit them when the rectangular thing passes them... yes, it's as confusing as it sounds. The graphics look okay for a Game Boy Color game, but they need work. What manages to save this game from disaster is the creepy vibe, creepy music, and overall okay presentation of the game. The puzzles feel about the same to its PSone console cousins; find certain things like keys to unlock new areas along with an assortment of other things. The zombies still have their decomposing glory in their looks, and the fact Leon is on this game manages to salvage most of the presentation. But its stupid killing methods and the lack of a deeper game will probably leave most handheld fans disappointed, if you want a Resident Evil handheld go buy Resident Evil: Deadly Silence for the DS instead. Also, the game is a little less clear on objectives than its console cousins as well, so you will get lost and confused. Unless you're a rabid RE fan there isn't much to check out on this game. Oh, and Capcom, why can't you shoot with the A button while aiming with the B button? Seriously, it would have been much better if it didn't have that stupid scale.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the same, June 27, 2002

Resident Evil is a name that most gamers know by heart as one of the most original and compelling games to grace the industry. It perfected the genre of Survival Horror and created a cult following immediately. Even today it is one of the most successful franchises in game history and definitely a large part of the bread and butter at CAPCOM. However it did not achieve this status for nothing. With every CLASSIC game there is a special and carefully developed gameplay system. The Resident Evil series from the beginning was developed with exploration and puzzle solving in mind. Then the graphical presentation was developed to supply enough detail and interest that a person would actually want to explore it. The setting, in a mansion full of horror story influences, was perfect for the type of game style that was being developed. At the time they used static backgrounds due to the fact that the Sony Playstation system couldn't display enough polygons to make a believable environment. But doing it this way also proved to make the graphical presentation much smoother and more detail rich. Later the series would try full 3D in Code Veronica for Sega Dreamcast, and then return to it's roots on GameCube in perhaps the best looking game to date. Resident Evil Gaiden for GBC was perhaps an unrealistic attempt from the beginning. The gameplay has completely changed so dramatically that it becomes a new game with a Resident Evil logo. It resembles more of a Metal Gear 8-bit Nintendo game from the 80's than a Resident Evil game. The battle system is completely boring and overly hard. It is more like a game of golf because you have to hit the button at the right time on a progress bar that scrolls left to right before you can shoot a zombie in combat mode. It's tricky and timing is everything. But, more importantly it just doesn't fit the RE universe and it is a poor attempt to port a name over to a dead handheld system with way too little power for such a detail/exploration latent game as RE. The graphics are horrible even for GBC standards and the battle system is poorly developed and there is no since this is even a RE game at all. Invest in something else, anything else. For 20 bucks more you could have RE for GameCube, the best RE there is. Stay away from this game I promise you will be taking it back the next day to trade for something else. It IS that BAD!

3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting experiment, December 5, 2011

The best way I can describe this game is that of a strange conglomeration. Combine the Resident Evil mood with the "Metal Gear"-esque visuals and a rhythm game battle system and you have Resident Evil Gaiden. The game can be quite challenging due to this odd "slider" means of attack. Even worse is that better weapons make the slider move faster, making the Rocket Launcher in this game the least efficient one represented by the series. Another annoyance is that escaping battles, even immediately, always seems to result in some damage. This game isn't as bad as its made out to be, but you REALLY have to play it safe if you want to make it through.
