3.0 out of 5 stars Classic soundtrack
I'm saddened to see how rare this CD appears to be now, it's too bad that not all RE fans are going to be able to get a copy if they want to relive the audio experience of the original PS1 game.

The music is very true to the game, it even includes the character names being read out over the explosive title theme! All the major incidental music is here, along...

5.0 out of 5 stars Itchy. Tasty. Prepare to be frightened!, October 14, 2000
This review is from: Resident Evil: Original Soundtrack Remix (Audio CD)
When playing the "Resident Evil" video game on the Playstation, one of the key-factors to its success is the music. The music serves as a vehicle to push the fear into the audience, boosting the experience into a frightening reality where hideous zombies and nightmarish bio-creatures exist.

To this purpose, the music of this game does not fail.

Full of terror and dread, the music on this CD is extremely beautiful. From full melodies of light, character-based themes (such as that of Track 3), the music ultimately reaches its true form: sinister refrains and terror soaked fear. The music is played out wonderfully by using (sometimes innovative) methods of scoring, perfectly matching the dead-filled corridors of the spooky Spencer mansion.

It achieves this so perfectly that sometimes some of the tracks are damn too frightening to listen to. If you are looking for scary music, then this is surely for you. If you are a fan of the series, you'll already know what I mean about the music and will want to buy it right away. To really enjoy the music contained here, it is probably a requirement that you've played the game; it adds a certain quality, and you know first hand from going through the game about the terror and horror that this music so perfectly relates.

As a previous reviewer mentioned, 'the music sounds 'somehow different'. There are two main reasons for this and the first is that this is actually a remix of the score, but is limited in that description. Only three or four tracks have been remixed, and only in the slightest way.

The second reason is that Capcom have remastered the game score using Q-Sound technology, which brings every instrument and every note forward, clarifying, into the music field offering great depth and dimension to the score, bringing much loved score into a new re-mastered light, offering a much wider 'view' of the music.

Overall, this is a great soundtrack to a great game. Its only fitting that it has been released on CD, and Capcom have presented it well (including game dialog at the beginning of some tracks, which tell the story during the length of the CD). Buy it, cue up the first track and let it take you away on a grateful remembrance of horror and terror.

As Makoto Tomozawa (Resident Evil Music Director) states: "If you haven't heard this music when you're alone, afraid, and in the dark, then you haven't heard it at all."

Itchy. Tasty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turn out the lights and let your imagination roam!, January 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Resident Evil: Original Soundtrack Remix (Audio CD)
Being the Resident Evil fan I am I have to admit I was a little skeptical when I found out that a soundtrack had been done for the game! I thought it would be someones lame attempt at just copying the music off of the game and trying to sell it and make a little extra money off of the Resident Evil name! Ultimatly I decided to buy it and listen for myself...and I sure was wrong! Not only does the soundtrack live up to the music in Resident Evil...it surpasses it! Every track is done very beautifully holding true to the Resident Evil experience as it plays with your imagination all the way through! This soundtrack is not souly limited to Resident Evil fans though...any classical music fan can enjoy this wonderfully remixed soundtrack! Just listen for yourself...believe me you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow is all I can say, July 27, 2005
This review is from: Resident Evil: Original Soundtrack Remix (Audio CD)
Just as the title says WOW! I cannot express how much I love this cd with only words! EVERY track on this cd is very well written. Especially the second song ' At Deep Mountains and Dark Valleys, the Night Begins' But as I said, EVERY track is awesome! And I'm a fan of heavy metal! That just shows how good this cd is. And don't let the remix title fool you. Only about *from what I can remember* two songs are remixed. But if you plan on buying this cd, I recommend buying from Amazon. Cause I got mine for only sixteen bucks! And that's a steal, Cause it once went on Ebay for eighty bucks. I highly recommend you get this cd along with Resident Evil 1. You will not be disappointed, I promise

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Spooky Music for a Perfect Spooky Game, August 6, 2000
This review is from: Resident Evil: Original Soundtrack Remix (Audio CD)
I was glad to see that a soundtrack came out for Resident Evil since I liked the music so much. Actually, the music from the 1st game is the most spooky of the 3. The soundtrack has everything from the game and is a must for any Resident Evil fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Good As It Is Evil..., April 25, 2000
This review is from: Resident Evil: Original Soundtrack Remix (Audio CD)
This album is a must for anyone that has ever experienced the Resident Evil series. The music is so integral to the game, but what is amazing is the depth of the compositions. When I first played the game, I thought that perhaps Mark Snow, composer of the music on X-Files, had done the game's score, so I raced to finish it just to get to the credits. It's that good - It's that thought out. Even the liner notes relate the extent the creators went to create a sensory effect through music beyond the visual and eye-hand coordination aspects which is the extent of most video games inter-relationships with their players. The chilling aspects of the music make the game, but what is truly amazing is that you can listen to this soundtrack as its own entity. I'm not too keen on the last track as it is the music track from the game credits, but hey, the album is very near perfect. This soundtrack makes a great sister album to Music From the X-Files by Mark Snow. Listen to both when you're alone, in the dark, and on a dark and stormy night... you can almost feel them shuffling on the other side of the door...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent soundtrack for a brilliant game., January 4, 2010
This review is from: Resident Evil: Original Soundtrack Remix (Audio CD)
This is the OST for the original Playstation 1 version of Resident Evil. (thankfully NOT the version that was used for the "Dual Shock Director's Cut version") It will surely remind you of when you were trying to beat this scary and daunting game. However buyer beware, as there are a quite a few tracks missing. Although most atmospheric tracks are present, I was especially dishearten to find that one of my favorite pieces of music, the "completed picture puzzle" track is missing from this CD. :(
I am sure there are a few others missing too.

Still if you like the game's soundtrack; it's worth paying the asking price, as the soundtrack is remastered clean in Q sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Soundtrack of All Game Soundtracks, March 29, 2007
By
This review is from: Resident Evil: Original Soundtrack Remix (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is exactly what I'd hoped it would be---Something that brings back memories of the old PS One days (modern to some of us, I'm sure), and the greatest game ever to come out for the system: Resident Evil One.

This truly is a must for any game soundtrack collector. Don't be fooled by the REMIX title--Only a few of the tracks are full-blown remixes, and even the ones that are remixed are mixed with precise drum machines, synths, strings,---basically what I mean is, it might be computerized, but they did a superb job--This is NOT a collection with the generic remixes we hear on the radio everyday. I won't say that it's "Genius", however, I can tell that a lot of "grunt" musical, hard-working talent was put into this great album.

Definitely a must for the game soundtrack collector (it's ultra-rare) and the Die-Hard Resident Evil fans like myself.

5 Stars to Capcom and those who contributed to this great composition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Classic soundtrack, January 20, 2001
This review is from: Resident Evil: Original Soundtrack Remix (Audio CD)
I'm saddened to see how rare this CD appears to be now, it's too bad that not all RE fans are going to be able to get a copy if they want to relive the audio experience of the original PS1 game.

The music is very true to the game, it even includes the character names being read out over the explosive title theme! All the major incidental music is here, along with a few ambient sounds here and there, I really enjoyed hearing the odd zombie shuffle and howling dog. As soon as the main mansion theme music starts up, you will be instantly transported back to the first moments of the game as you prowled nervously around the corridors. I have to say that if you have never played the game you're not going to get an awful lot out of this music - unlike other game soundtracks I own, it doesn't really stand up by itself out of context of the game, as some of the tracks are little more than a few looped notes of simple music, or drawn out synth wallpaper. You do get a very spooked-up version of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" though!

But it works very well as a souvenir of the game experience, especially the final Tyrant themes. The first includes breaking glass sound effects which reminds you of the moment he freed himself from the glass tank (eek!), and the final one includes all the sound effects over the music (flare gun going off, roof top smashing open, helicopter hovering over and a rocket launcher shot!), which was great fun to listen to again.

The sleeve states that this is a remix of the soundtrack, but you'll be hard pushed to notice any differences. I however was disappointed to discover that the ONE theme that really stayed with me during the game, which was the sinister music that accompanied the claustrophobic corridors of the mansion basement, is the only one most noticeably and very poorly remixed (it's called "Narrow and Close" on the soundtrack), and has lost all its creepiness. So I hope that one wasn't one of your favourites too. That aside, I can't hear any difference in any of the other tracks, except maybe they sound a bit more polished up.

So a fan-only release, but worth owning for any video game soundtrack fan. And great for Halloween parties!
