Product Description

Continuing the dramatic story of an epidemic caused by a secret biological weapon infecting the people of Raccoon City, Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 brings longtime survival horror fans back into the world of online terror. Citizens are turning into flesh-eating zombies and swarming the streets, while only a few desperate survivors remain. Totaling eight characters in all, each survivor has different and unique abilities that they must use to escape the city before the government annihilates it with a deadly hydrogen bomb. Brand new scenarios, improved computer AI, additional character powers, and faster load times are but a few of the game's new additions since the previous version. Developed exclusively for the PlayStation 2.

3.0 out of 5 stars New Outbreak, same old problems. April 28, 2005
Format:Video Game
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The next volume in Capcom's Outbreak series comes to a console near you! The concept and play mechanics are still the same as the first game, and it's ready for online gamers to try it out.

Some greatly appreciated improvements are being able to instruct AI in single person mode to use items in their inventory. Being able to select one's partner in each scenario is useful, but not all characters like each other. There is a new like system. If they like you, they cooperate more. Pretty basic and easy to understand.

The feature that I like the most is the ability to actually move while you shoot and attack. This makes it easier to dodge and avoid being hit when trying to attack up close. The control scheme for it takes a bit getting use to, involving you to use both the right and left shoulder buttons, but it works. Why they didn't have this in previous Resident Evil games before...nevermind.

Fans will Like the new stage inside the RPD police department, and also being able to transfer data between games for costumes is nice.

However, as with the last Outbreak, there are issues. Capcom made it clear that they weren't planning on using any voice chat for the online mode. While I personally have no problem with this, it can get very annoying trying to talk to people with only the preset options in situations that require coordination between people.

Remember the load times for the first game? Well, they too are back. Though the time it takes to load between room to room seems to have decreased in length from the first game.

AI for NPC's in offline mode can get annoying. Sometimes it seems to work, and others, it's dumber than a box of rocks.

No adjustable camera still.

3.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating Than Scary May 14, 2006
Format:Video Game
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Personally, this is the FIRST Resident Evil game I own, and I'm TERRIFIED of zombies (I don't know why, I just am.) When I (finally) started to play this, I thought "Hey, this isn't so bad," but as I played more and more of this game, I knew it would get bad...

For starters, the more you venture into a certain scenario, you realize at just how frustrating everything can be; from the stupid, annoying zombies, to the tough/ very hard puzzles to solve -- and not to mention you have a certain 'time limit' to this whole thing since you have a virus gauge that kills you when it gets to 100%!

Most of the characters you choose only have four item slots, and it makes you mad that you can't carry more then that. Usually, if there's something important that you HAVE to carry, you most likely have to give up something you really want to keep, but have to get rid of it for the IMPORTANT item!

Also, the two characters that accompany you hardly listen to you. Sometimes they can be helpful, but most of the time they just ignore you and get in the way. It would be nice that when you're ever in trouble and call for 'help!', they'll actually HELP you instead of going "okay" and just run around and do nothing.

I guess this game has SOME good sides to it. The environments are really neat looking, and the whole "point and move" option is very helpful instead of having to stand still and fire something. To actually move while you're aiming is great when there's a monster about to run into you or stampede over you.

I have a players guide to this game, and... it CAN be helpful, but overall, it's [...

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy. April 1, 2007
Format:Video Game
Capcom as of March 29 2007 has taken the game servers off line for File #2. I would highly suggest that you not buy this game as the computer AI is extremly horrible and the only decent game play came from playing with others.

4.0 out of 5 stars The outbreak series is really worth getting... May 30, 2005
Format:Video Game
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Resident evil: outbreak file 1 and 2 are amazing online games to buy. The only problem is that if you don't have PS2 online you shouldn't even bother renting this series, not to mention buying it. Outbreak one and two are only to be taken seriously if the consumer has online and really wants to have fun, get scared, and possibly win scenarios with help from other people. So many things can go wrong in each scenario, leaving people to have to save eachother, rather then caring only about themselves. This series has amazing enemies to face and non-stop scares just waiting to be experienced. Playing at midnight on the weekends, in the dark, especially gives the game life.

The only problem from my perspective is that the loading pages last so long, but w/e its just a game to pass the time. Definately a serious thought to buy this game if online is available.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots better than the first May 25, 2005
By Ryan H.
Format:Video Game
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Okay, I kinda didn't like the first game too much (slow gameplay and all) but this one looked more interesting from the cover and description. So, does this game reek like the reanimated corpses? NO!! Capcom actually did a very good job putting this game together, fixing a lot of bugs from the other games. Like for instance the annoying Ad-libs no longer have the VO's and are replced by silence (my ears stopped bleeding ;))

Another cool feature is the ability to shoot and walk at the same time, a first for the series. While it may not be revolutionary, it is quite useful especially against Hunters and these new bug creatures called Mega-Bites (real original, huh?).

Capcom knows that the undead are pretty lame and we need a replacement (hint: RE4) so some of the levels get rid of the zombies, or have a variation of them. For example, "Wild Things" takes place in the zoo with zombified animals, like an elephant, who would have killed you anyway even if he weren't infected with the t-virus (I hear elephants are clumsy sometimes, that would be a sad death >__<). You will not find human zombies in this level. Dogs are replaced with lions (that's right, lions), crows are replaced with hornbills (?!) and the bees make an appearence.

Another interesting twist is the Axeman in the "Flashback" scenario. Its some man with a hood who appears to be human chasing you with an axe, nice. Is he human? To find out play this scenario and collect all the main file, its interesting to see who it is. Also they placed a plant zombie in this level, which can poison you.

So should you buy this game? If you are a RE fan, definately pick this one up.
