5.0 out of 5 stars A good CD floating in a sea of [poor] ones
Before I bought this CD, I carefully considered it, wondering if it would be able to buck my unlucky trend of horrid CD-buying. Fortunately, it has done that and much more.
Although most of the songs on the CD are remixes of previously released songs, this doesn't take away from the hardcore rock atmosphere the music creates from beginning to end.

....but I must deduct points for the usless censoring that takes place on this album. Yes, I repeat: The songs are CENSORED. I knew something was wrong. I looked at the cover expecting a "Parental Advisory" sticker, but didn't see one. Hmmmm. This rang very suspicious to me, seeing that most of the bands on this album tend to swear a lot. I pop it in, yep. Swears are blanks. What am I? Twelve? If this movie were rated PG-13, I would've understood, but the movie is rated R. So, that was a BIG disappointment.

Despite that, however, the album is saved by the very cool songs that appear on this soundtrack. I really like the new version of Slipknot's "my plague." More singing than yelling. Slipknot haters call it "watered-down," but I do not agree. The new version sounds great.

The remixes are pretty good. I like the Marilyn Manson remix of "the fight song," which was given the Slipknot remix. The vocals could've been louder, though. But still good.

Bands that appear on the CD: Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Adema, Mudvayne, Five Pointe O, Coal Chamber, Crystal Method, and many more.

The score by Manson is outstanding. The best part of the album, I think.

Overall, this is an OK soundtrack that would've been spectacular if it were not censored. And no, there is not an unedited version. This is it. So stop waiting for one and either get it or don't. I recommend this CD if you like the bands mentioned above. Again, the only reason why this gets 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 is because of it having the swears taken out of it. If I want a radio edit album, then I will buy one. Until then, leave the friggen swears in, please. It really takes away from the music. If people can't stand the swearing, then it's their right not to listen to the album.

To sum it up. Very awesome album with great bands and songs, but the censoring really hurts it. Bad.

Then again, that's MY opinion. I still like the album, don't get me wrong.

(Final Note: I should've waited for the reviews to come out instead of buying it the day it came out. At least I would've been prepared. Although I am writing the review now, I DID buy the ablum the day it came out. Just in case someone wants to shoot me down for not reading the warnings from other reviewers.)

Personally, I believe this CD has the sweetest first 'song' of an CD: a creepy introduction by the Red Queen herself, in which she asserts that "you're all going to die down here."
The rest of the CD is a hard rock/metal fan's dream. From the anger-ridden "My Plague (New Abuse Mix)" by Slipknot to the techno-y "Name of the Game (Clean Name)" by The Crystal Method, there is virtually nothing missing, save for perhaps the lack an appearance by one of the best "nu-metal" bands out there, System of a Down.
The end of the soundtrack is a smorgasboard of the original movie score, produced by the incomparable Marilyn Manson. "Seizure of Power" is probably the best, starting off slowly and flowing into a veritable bang-your-head rhythm.
This CD is not for the easy listener: each song has at least one point where you'll hear the beat pound in your head. But if you're like me and have been looking for the perfect CD to rock out to (or just bang your head against the wall, whichever you prefer), this is it.
Oh...and the picture of Milla Jovovich on the back ain't half-bad either.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed bag, and that's saying it nicely, October 22, 2002
This review is from: Resident Evil (Audio CD)
The soundtrack for the Resident Evil movie leaves me with a number of questions. The most obvious of which is why is this soundtrack edited? I don't get it, the movie was rated R, and this soundtrack is on Roadrunner Records (whose majority of bands on the label carry Parental Advisory labels on they're albums, not to mention this soundtrack is pretty much a showcase for mostly Roadrunner artists), and as trivial as that sounds, that is just something that doesn't ring right with me. Second off, where is "Fist F..." by Nine Inch Nails? It was featured in the film but not on the soundtrack which is a big disappointment. Most of the remixes featured on here are no where as good as the originals as well. Slipknot's "New Abuse" mix of "My Plague" is nothing special and is really an edited, toned down version of the original song. Marilyn Manson's Slipknot mixed "Fight Song" pales to the original as well. Some good selections from Coal Chamber, Fear Factory, Rammstein, and a surprising appearence from Depeche Mode round out the soundtrack alongside filler from Crystal Method and Method Man, but it's Manson's four tracks of movie score that save this soundtrack from being a drink coaster. All in all, Resident Evil isn't a bad soundtrack, but there are a few far better metal soundtracks out there.

This album probably is one of the two best soundtrack ever released, but why the hell did they EDIT IT?! wtf is up with that. They need to release an unedited version of this immediately, because with bands like Slipknot, Manson, Mudvayne, etc.; HOW CAN YOU EDIT THE GOD DAMN THING?! Every song on here is great, although I owned most of them on CD. The original form of Slipknot's "My Plague" is far better. Same with "Dig" and "Fight Song." What the hell, all the remixes have better album versions, but a good CD nonetheless. it's good to see Saliva re-recording 800, a song from their indie self titled album. I'd suggest Queen of The Damned before this one, for the sole reason that the music is just as good but it doesn't get edited.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wheres the rest of the music, July 5, 2003

I thought this album was great, all the tracks are good, particularly mansons tracks at the end. But, like with practically every soundtrack, there are tracks on the film that didnt appear on the album. What happened to Marco Beltramis part of the score? Junkie XL also supplied some music along with an exellent Spine Shank song:'cyanide 2600' and the remix of Nine Inch Nails' 'wish'. I would have much prefered if they had used every track in the film and made it kind of like the 'lock Stock' or 'Snatch' albums, where the songs are mixed with excerts from the film. They should have done that and then added a couple of extra tracks like the Static X track and Rammsteins one. Instead, they just used Mansons tracks (which are exellent, very atmospheric mixed with meaty drums and grinding guitar sounds) and plonked other tracks with them to make just another metal compilation. When you see the name 'Resident Evil', you expect something scary. All this said though, it is a good album none the less.

3.0 out of 5 stars LOL, April 28, 2005
This review is from: Resident Evil (Audio CD)
I'm sorry...but I just have to laugh at you Flanders. When you refered to the Depeche Mode song, you said that they were some "static-x wannabes who don't no what metal is" Ummm...first of all, Depeche Mode has been around for over 20 years...so they could hardly be "static-x wannabes" Nor have they ever been metal, claimed to be metal or tried to be metal...it's freakin' Depeche Mode! Gawd, you must be very young. LOL

4.0 out of 5 stars Marilyn Manson Shines in Darkness..., March 29, 2002
This review is from: Resident Evil (Audio CD)
Being a huge fan of Marilyn Manson, I decided to buy this CD. However, not for the Slipknot remix of his superb "Fight Song..." Oh, no, that would be too simple. Manson actually did the musical score for the film "Resident Evil," of which I have not yet seen, and he propels himself into even darker depths of beauty with his techno-Goth type of music that makes one shiver with goosebumps while listening to it. I admire Manson's talent even moreso now that I have listened to this CD and heard his exuberant score of which one can only listen to after making sure the doors are locked and all the lights are turned on. Some of the songs are just so damn EERIE! The songs are crawling with life, and are reason enough to buy this CD. However, I'm afraid to say that there is a downside... Who the hell decided to release this CD as an edited soundtrack? Listening to the songs on this CD with little blurps over all the "bad words" is aggravating. One can't truly feel the immense vibe of these bands as they scream gutturally and let out all the passion within their lyrics without the miscellaneous cussing that goes along with them. Because of this unfortunate condition, it seems as though there's something missing, which ultimately gives this CD 3 Stars. So why did I give it 4? Well, you probably guessed it - Manson's vitality in the last four songs of the soundtrack's musical score are more than enough to bump it up one more star. Manson has officially let all his fans know that he still has all his amazing talent and much, much more. I hope that he decides to do more musical scores, because they extend powefully upon his volatile passion that he has for what he does...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, February 22, 2004
This review is from: Resident Evil (Audio CD)
I thought that this was a pretty good soundtrack. Naturally, you aren't going to like every song off of a movie soundtrack. My favorites are Adema, Ill Nino, and The Crystal Method. I hate the song by Method Man and I despise Slipknot, so there were some songs I didn't like. In fact, I disliked about half the songs. But, as I said, you shouldn't expect to like every song on a soundtrack. All in all, it isn't bad, but it isn't great. I'd say it's pretty good, especially if you just want to take a few of the songs off of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Manson's Score Made It for Me, August 31, 2002
This review is from: Resident Evil (Audio CD)
Resident Evil's soundtrack is just as you'd expect after seeing the movie. Full of hard hitting, guitar riffed, and alternate -- almost techno -- version of songs from bands such as Saliva, Static-X, and Slipknot. Thing is, they fit the pace that the movie carried. So there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But the numero uno thing that drew me to buy this soundtrack are the last 5 or so tracks. That is . . .

Marilyn Manson's score for Resident Evil. Without this, the cd would have gotten 2 stars from me because I generally do not listen to the bands and type of music that were on the cd, but Manson's ingenious score shoots the rating up to a sure 4 stars. Manson's score - which was wonderfully orchestraed by Marco Beltrami - is at times eerie while at other times, it is completely in your face and utterly menacing. It's very easy to imagine scenes from the movie as you listen to the score.

If you're one to like the music styling of Static-X and above, you're sure to enjoy this cd. Especially if you're into remixes. But for those who aren't, I recommend you still buy the cd, if only to savour Manson's score.

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty kool compilation, August 24, 2002

Dane Kinkead (Aurora, Mo USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Resident Evil (Audio CD)
i bought this album a while ago with the sole purpose of listening to the rammstein track hallelujah, and really its still about the only song i listen 2 on it..........but theres some good stuff here so ill run the songlist down..

ill start with slipknots my plague remix..........i can dig the music in both the remix and the original....but i cant dig the sell out nature of the band.....and the whole mask look at me im scary thing gets 2 me.....i used 2 like them....but therye seemingly another sell out....look scary....wanna be freaks and such will like us and but r music even if we "water" it down so it will still sell and blah blah

the fight song.......its cool......i can listen for a while....way 2 repetitive......and really i dont have the urge 2 fight nething after listening 2

now i somewhat like coal chamber.....i like this song....but its just 2 darn the same as everything else......scary vocalist....easy riff......and really uninspired drums.....i dont know...its a kool song 2 listen 2 either way

i dont like rap so much....but crystal method has a pretty cool song here

i hate adema......i hate nu metal boy type bands......this is like coal chamber with a heaver riff and heavier cymbals....havent we heard this from every new band?

fear factory.....havent heard anything else besides this one....i dig it.....i think the synths could be eerier sounding......but i like the drums in this one....same riffs as u hear everywhere else though

i love static x.....ken jay is a master metal drummer......i dig waynes voice.......its still not completely original....u cant ask it of bands......its 2 hard nowadays for ne original stuff.....but they still just keep rocking non stop

yes......rammstein.....im a little bias 2 say the least.....no one knows about these guys.....b/c mtv and the likes wont play their music......and it makes all rammstein fans angry to c this great band not get recognition for the incredible music.......i recommend all who read this 2 go out and buy "mutter". these guys rock........just plain and simple.....two great guitarists....the best singer......my man cristoph at the drums....and ollie and flake at bass and keyboards....these guys dont write music for the masses....they could care less....they write music that they themselves approve......and their fans approve....and all of us fans i think would rather keep it that way....they play for the fans......not for the masses and the critics. neways......hallelujah.....to tell u...is about a priest involved in a child molesting scandal........not a scary resident evil arrghhhhh scream song.....but the voice effects fit perfectly with the movie....but most reviewers or listeners agree that they dig the track better than most of the album......
