Great read!,

This review is from: Resistance The Gathering Storm (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a fan of the PS3 games, so I thought I would grab the book as a filler between the two games, and I am glad I did. It really drops you in the middle of war torn America, following the fictional time line setup from the first game, and then bridging the gap to the second game.
I hope there will be more books in the future, I read this book in 2 days as I did not want to put it down. It had good character development, as you would feel the pain of the heroes, and wish pain upon the villains (not just the Chimera). Even if someone was not a video game fan, they could still read and enjoy this book as it could stand on it's own. J

I like to read on a long road trip. I stopped by Chapter's on my way out of town and the front cover of this book caught my eye. I did not realize this book was based on a video game.
I am a grandmother and over 50. But I can truthfully say this was a damn good book and had a great plot. I read it on my breaks at work and late at night when I should have been sleeping. I didn't want to put it down. I'm am going to look at the other books by this author.

Excellent book!! Enjoyed the many facets the story offered and the spirit of the American characters was balls to the wall. This book sets the stage for books 2 & 3, I hope. It would be a shame to let the story end like this cause you just know Lt. Hale will recruit his adopted sister Susan to smoke some Chimera butt!!

My son picked out this book, because it was based on a video game and left it in our living room. I picked it up in a moment of boredom and couldn't put it down again, despite the fact that the story line was relatively predictable. The book is well written and the main character has a quiet strength that draws you in, without really knowing why. I did question the advanced technology in a 1950's timeline, but it didn't bother me enough to stop reading. There were a number of interesting secondary characters, and I find that I want to know more about them, and would definitely buy a sequel. Though this isn't a genre I normally read, I will definitely look for more books by the author.

I am not a gamer, but have friends that have played the game that the book is based on and talk about it all the time. I am glad that I downloaded this book to my Kindel, Mr. Dietz did an outstanding job of putting this NOVEL together. It is well written and I love the way the plot has both a military side and a political side to it, the character developement was exellent. I had this book read in less than two days, it was hard to put down. I have and will continue to reccommend this book to my friends and anyone reading this review, it is worth the money!!!! There will be more Resistance books to follow, I promise you that!!!

I love alternate history and sci-fi. I especially like the combination of the two genres.
This book was okay, but it was based heavily on a video-game script. In truth, it was a bit flat. The characters could have been so much deeper and more intriguing, but the author didn't quite pull it off. Too much was left assumed, such as VTOL aircraft. No explanation of how they leaped that far ahead (no historical precedents either) nor real description of said aircraft. Perhaps breaking the story into two parts and going deeper into detail might have helped.

Good Read,

Just finished the book, and I was satisfied with the ending knowing that there is a second book. The author does a good job at building up the story, and adding some twist at the end. The author is very descriptive and I some times gagged when he described a tumorous farting alien. People complain that the book is based on a video game, but I never played the game and was able to enjoy the book. The one issue I do have is that Hale refers to his battle in England a lot and not much background is provided. Maybe that's because the video game gives you that background, but not having played the game I wouldn't know. For the price you cant complain, its of great value. Starting on the second book now.

Resistance: A Gathering Storm was an entertaining insight into the events between the first two games. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down until I finished it, which sadly didn't take too long. While it was 300 pages, the book was still pretty small. I'd have liked to have heard more about different missions that Hale and company were sent on, rather than Hale's love/sex life.

Well, I'm a big fan of the Resistance games and Nathan Hale, so I was happy to see that this book has a lot of focus on him. The book basically tells you what happened in America between the two games, while also introducing some new things about the Chimeran virus, Nathan's family, and The Sentinels (the military force Hale is a part of). You also learn more about certain characters that are only occasionally mentioned in the games, such as Jordan Shepperd and Noah Grace. From start to finish, this book does a great job of bridging the gap between the two games.
That being said, the book isn't as dark or mysterious as the first game, and fails to capture the same sense of hopelessness that I felt playing the first. I was disappointed that there was no mention of the non-American characters like Rachael Parker or Steven Cartwright. I also found certain things, such as Nathan Hale's love interest, to be pointless and boring additions to the story. Although minor reasons, that's why I didn't give the book a perfect five stars. Regardless, if you enjoyed the storyline of the games, you'll probably enjoy this book.

I am an avid reader of Sci Fi books. I enjoyed the book from Mr. Dietz set on the Halo universe, so I was looking forward to reading this one.
The book is enjoyable for even those that are not familiar with the Playstation game, because of the nice descriptions provided by the author style of writing. In my opinion is a fine book, which leaves you wanting to see more on the battle for the planet. |
