Not based on the tv series, but based on the movie, August 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Resistance (StarGate, Book 5) (Paperback)
What some folks may not be aware of is that the SG-1 series was based on the hit movie Stargate. In my opinion, the movie was far superior to the series and the novels that continue the movie thread (not the series) also reflect this.
If you are a fan of the tv series and never saw the movie (or like the series more than the film that started it all), then stick with the SG-1 books based on the tv show because this book will not carry over some of your favorite characters from the show - except the originals that came from the film (and will carry over their characteristics, not the ones reflected in the show). If you are a fan of the movie then definitely pick up this series of books.
Unfortunately, some of the other reviews here of this book appear to be by fans of the tv series who expected this book to be a continuation of this show...and actually thought the book was based on the series. The book says right on the cover that it is based on the characters created by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, the writers of the movie. These two creative people are not involved in the tv series (which is too bad because I would probably watch it more if they were).
So if you want a great read that continues the story started in the movie then pick the whole series up. If you are expecting a book that is based on the show then you'll be disappointed.

This can't be the end of the series!, November 25, 1999
This review is from: Resistance (StarGate, Book 5) (Paperback)
I have read the four preceding books and I did like this one as much as the others. However, this can't be the end of the series! Not one thread in the story gets an ending! I'll be VERY disappointed if there is no more books after this one.

Action-packed spin-off ideal for beach reading, July 29, 2000
If you loved the movie STARGATE and also the SG-1 TV series, then give this a go. This was the first time I'd read any of the STARGATE novels, and for a TV/film tie-in product of sorts this is very good reading. I picked up a copy of the paperback whilst on vacation in Barbados and had a whale of a time reading it whilst relaxing on the beach. The story is one where Colonel O'Neil and Daniel Jackson lead the refugees from Abydos to a new world when theirs is attacked. But on the new world, there's a deadlier enemy - RAYGUN-WIELDING CATS! Yes that really was in the narrative which is sometimes as unintentionally funny as a grade-B sci-fi flick! The cat-like aliens are intent on a takeover, so it's up to O'Neil and his Marine Expeditionary Units to save the Abydans again. Great military action scenes, an archaelogical dig in Saudi Arabia subplot discovering alien artifacts and some interesting characters help to pull it along nicely. It'll tend to my SG-1 withdrawal symptoms until the new series hits the UK.(well, there's always the reruns . . .)
