More About the Author

Marian McBride is an American author of Scottish descent. When she feels like honoring her roots, she plays her Celtic harp, but not as well as she'd like. Occasionally, she sings along, usually when she wants to punish her family.

Marian is not a particularly great Scot. She doesn't enjoy haggis or bagpipes, but she does love a good Highland Games, especially when men in kilts do the caber toss. She hopes by showing some Scottish pride in her writing, her clansmen will forgive for not visiting home often.

The author has asked for reviews if we have read the book. I just finished the book. It is a short book and I really enjoyed it. The heroine lives in a small village with her parents. She has two sisters. Her grandfather lives close by in a castle and he has asked her to come live with him. There is a bit of romance and some mystery too. What I find with most first novels is the book is good and the author writes great stuff. Usually by the second or third the trash comes out. This short story is good clean story and can be read by all ages. Lets hope the author doesn't disappoint us and keeps up the great literature without the trash.

Glanced at the different reviews, especially the bad ones. This is not a one star. Yes, there are typos, but I've seen as many in books by established writers. Yes, the story is simple. Sometimes that is very pleasing to our brains. It was to my mind. Some of the authors I've read (Clive Cussler comes to mind) require a strong commitment from my brain to keep the story straight in my head. Ms McBride's first book is worth reading and I forward to her next book.

3 1/2 stars. It's a good story, but not great. The story starts with her love of music, which somehow got lost in the story. There were loose ends regarding that in my mind. What happened to her commitments to the students and the church -- did she just leave everyone hanging?

It is a romantic story, not graphic sex which I appreciated. It was hard for me to determine the time period.

I have actually never read a scottish romance/highlander book before now, but my friend passed a copy of this on to me, and the cover caught my attention. So I decided to give it a go. I immediately fell in love with Bridget and her charming life living with her family and aspiring to be a piano teachers. What happens next, however, it much more charming--she ends up living with her grandfather, and as a result, with Aidan as well, who has become her grandfather's right hand man. The sexual tension is fantastic as we follow these two--obviously attracted to one another, but with his reputation, she resisting him for the sake of her heart. I rather enjoyed how it all played out <3

Characters need more development. Background details and character connections are sparse. Plot is disjointed and predictable progressing from major theme to major theme with limited detail or connections. Proofreading is deplorable, lots of missing words in sentences and several misspellings.

A sweet love story between two likeable characters, Bridget and Aiden. Strong Scottish setting, replete with castles and fascinating historical details.

A fun, page-turning read that will find you rooting for Bridget and Aiden. Lovely story -- hope to see more from this author soon!

the first part dragged out, and then all of a sudden, we have our young Scottish miss falling in love. Suspense, jealousy, drama, love.....all there.

I found the romance in this book very contrived and the heroine a bit wooden. The editing was alps poor.
