Book Description

Young Bridget Campbell has a peaceful life in the Scottish lowlands living in her parents' home with her sisters and training to be a piano teacher. Her life is turned upside down when her wealthy grandfather, Robert MacDonald, invites her to stay with him at his castle and become the lady of the house.

But moving to the castle means living under the same roof as Aidan MacLeod, a handsome highlander recently brought to the village to be her grandfather's right hand man. Although there's a mutual attraction, Bridget senses something sinister about the outlander, and if the rumors are true he's not to be trusted, especially with her heart.

As strange noises fill the night and then a frightening attack nearly sends her from the keep, Bridget considers returning home. Her grandfather needs her, but Aidan and the housekeeper, Besse, would surely rejoice at her departure, leaving them in a better position to inherit the property. Bridget needs to discover the source of the threat and who she can trust.

Resisting the Highlander is a sweet romance mystery set in the 19th century appropriate for teens and adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars Irresistible Romance August 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Surprisingly good. I enjoyed this historical novel from beginning to end. It is well written with likeable characters and an innocence I wasn't expecting but enjoyed. I read a lot in this genre and look for details. I could tell the author did her research.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not an irresistible story, but good. September 3, 2014

3 1/2 stars. It's a good story, but not great. The story starts with her love of music, which somehow got lost in the story. There were loose ends regarding that in my mind. What happened to her commitments to the students and the church -- did she just leave everyone hanging?

It is a romantic story, not graphic sex which I appreciated. It was hard for me to determine the time period.

5.0 out of 5 stars a good clean mystery and romance September 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The author has asked for reviews if we have read the book. I just finished the book. It is a short book and I really enjoyed it. The heroine lives in a small village with her parents. She has two sisters. Her grandfather lives close by in a castle and he has asked her to come live with him. There is a bit of romance and some mystery too. What I find with most first novels is the book is good and the author writes great stuff. Usually by the second or third the trash comes out. This short story is good clean story and can be read by all ages. Lets hope the author doesn't disappoint us and keeps up the great literature without the trash.

“Highlander” has become synonymous with strong, brave and heroic but at times there’s more sex than plot. The strong, brave and heroic are commendable but there are limits to the sex angle. It’s refreshing to find a book where there is a leading character that reflects a down to earth man who can win a young lady’s heart with brains instead of brawn and kindness instead of testosterone. McBride has accomplished this in Resisting the Highlander. The result leaves you with a feeling that it can happen and does and still have a book that is heartwarming and absorbing from beginning to end.

More About the Author

Marian McBride is an American author of Scottish descent. When she feels like honoring her roots, she plays her Celtic harp, but not as well as she'd like. Occasionally, she sings along, usually when she wants to punish her family.

Marian is not a particularly great Scot. She doesn't enjoy haggis or bagpipes, but she does love a good Highland Games, especially when men in kilts do the caber toss. She hopes by showing some Scottish pride in her writing, her clansmen will forgive for not visiting home often.
