5.0 out of 5 stars Members of the Resistance, United!!!!!!!!!, February 13, 2006

This review is from: Resisting Success / If at First You Don't Succeed (Audio CD)
Hades were one of that 80s bands that offered an intersting proposal, captivating concept in lyrics, in visual terms, musically they had a combination of speed, power metal and trash elements but......maybe this is a personnal opinion i found some sort of elegance, frontman Alan Techhio had some proper personality that only charming vocalists own and his vocal skills were quite amazing, Dan Lorenzo on guitar were a musician very open to experimentation on different sounds such as classic guitar, bluesy sounds, dense feedback, check out "outro" and "Tears Of Orpheus", youll see what i mean, "Opinionate" is the perfect intro for "If at first you dont suceed" very simmilar to Metallicas most classic album intros, "rebel without a brain" and "diplomatic inmunity" reveals the political thougth this band adopted as a part of the concept, actually Hades had that same political and social context that Metallica started to include in ...And Justice For All and that seemed to be the tendence many other bands followed but not for long, it ended as a temporary fashion. "I too Eye" is another great, great track very explosive a little more frivolous than the rest of the songs but the perfect rest for the so judgemental elements contained on the other songs, another remarkable thing here is that despite they were from New Jersey they looked like an european band , maybe its only me but they seemed european for my taste, Hades were an amazing band, another project were born from them called "Non Fiction" were Tecchio were on vocals too, i have never heard them but im not that interested, Hades were not able to survive to this days, their concept didnt quite fit in the 90s and certainly neither in the current decade and therefore they were disbanded maybe for the best, afterall many other bands that doesnt fit anymore in the present are still trying and causing shame because they dont know when its time to retire, Hades keep a good memory for me

5.0 out of 5 stars About Bloody Time..., February 9, 2006
This review is from: Resisting Success / If at First You Don't Succeed (Audio CD)
Where has this release been since cd's came out? Back when they did, I never bought cd's cuz they were too expensive. When I finally did, all I had was the lp of Resisting Success and the tape of If at First...and man did I kick myself in the ass when I found they were out of print. Little did I know that eight years later Hades would indepedently re-release them in '98 and I had no idea till it was too late. So, when I was at the store and accidentally came across this I almost made a mess. These two are by far the best releases they have ever put out. The craftsmenship, emotion and thought provoking music with witty lyrics and a phenominal vocalist, my favorite of all time by the way, make these two my fave. You can hear the progression between the albums and the direction they were going to go in but came to a sudden halt. They had broken up and the most stylish and creative drummer, T. Coombs, had broken his foot or something and couldn't play the way he used to and they came out with kind of a sleeper "Exist to Resist." Sounds more like their second effort band Non-Fiction but still decent, just not the powerful "Hades" of old. These two are essential for any Hades or classic 80's metal fan because they are in one package for the price of one, plus they are so damn hard to find! Rarely do I find ANY Hades cd's in a used bin so pick this up and don't spend years regretting you didn't, like me :( This also includes two unreleased tracks, including one they just went into the studio and did exclusively for this release that will go great with your collection of Hades tunes. New to Hades? Pick this up or something new like the "DamNation" album which will just kick your damn teeth in. Cheers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two of the best metal albums EVER!!!, March 10, 2011

If you were a fan of speed metal in the 80s and were never exposed to Hades when these two albums came out, boy did you miss something great! But now you have your chance to check them out. I put these albums up there with the best of all time. Yep, right up there with the likes of Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, Among The Living, Number of The Beast, etc. I would be conservative in saying that I've listened to both of them HUNDREDS of times, back when they were on records and tapes. CD releases have been rare over the years so do yourself a favor and get them both right now in this 2 for 1 set. You will NOT be disappointed!!!

Almost forgot: If you're a metal musician, you'll love the amazing drumming of T. Coombs!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks for remembering HADES, March 7, 2008
This review is from: Resisting Success / If at First You Don't Succeed (Audio CD)
Thanks to everybody who remembers HADES. It was fun while it lasted. I actually like Exist To Resist and the 3 Metal Blade cds better, but I understand how much we meant to some people in the 80's. After HADES cd DamNation I released 3 solo cds plus THE CURSED cd "Room Full of Sinners" with Blitz on vox. THE CURSED sound more like NON-FICTION. Dan

5.0 out of 5 stars A LOST 80'S CLASSIC RE-RELEASED, May 12, 2005
This review is from: Resisting Success / If at First You Don't Succeed (Audio CD)
Chances are you might not of heard hades first 2 releases .Unless your a dye hard metal fan theres a chance you may not of heard of them but boy do yourself a favor and buy this if you like bands such as judas priest ,iron maiden metallica etc. Basically to try to sum hades sound take 1 part iron maiden 1 part metallica circa master of puppets ,and maybe early rush combine and you have hades. Resisting success starts of with the leaders and finishes with masque of the red death.Tough to pick a fave. but i would say either widows mite(chapter11) or MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH. wouldnt say they sound exactlly like Dream theatre but id say thats the closest comparison i can come to hades sound on these c.d's. It's a shame these guys didnt make it huge but do yourself a favor and by this disc .Also included is there second release if at first you dont succeed which is also top notch check out aftermath of betrayal(the tragedy of hamlet) for some great lyrics and music top notch .With out a doubt probablly one of my top 5 metal cd's of all time
