I'm Ready for Another New Day...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Resolutions (Audio CD)
Wow. I've tried, really tried to make it through this CD from start to finish and I just can't do it. That's really sad since Ready For A New Day was such an awesome collection of tunes. In fact, every time I shop at Old Navy, there is a song from that CD on their system. So, the main problem with Resolutions is the fact that it doesn't really contain songs. Todd Terry is the master of the vocal jam and that's what he has sorrowfully omitted here. The single and only real vocal, Let It Ride, just makes that more apparent with each listen. The raps are tired. The attempt at an Island sound with "Murderah" took me a few spins before I realized that homie is dubbing in English. To paraphrase a movie review I read, "Profanity isn't lyrics". If you need a Tee fix, go for The House Music Movement instead. Pass on this puppy--it's a dog unless you just like mindless, pounding rhythm. And if you despise everything that contemporary rap music has become, definitely avoid Resolutions.

Worth all 4 stars...,

For all those people who gave Todd Terry only one star-- instead of stupidly over-analyzing his music, you should learn to appreciate it! Although some of his beats are a little simple, they are nevertheless fresh and ultra fun to listen to. This album is a sure way to get you in dance mode. Peace.

Don't believe the hype,

This is unadulterated crap from an aging house dj trying to front industrial/jungle sensibility. The loops are simple. The samples are out of place and context. The MC's drip whack pretension. If you desire phenomenal drum'n'bass, check out WE "The Square Root of Negative One".

No Divas here! Just noise...,

This CD is a complete disappointment. The vocal showcase of Terry's previous work is traded for a "PARENTAL ADVISORY" warning. Come on... It should have a "CRAP ADVISORY" instead. Let me know when Martha and Jocelyn start taking his calls again.

Todd Terry is quite good at putting together sounds, and you will especially like listening to this CD if you are just relaxing-but this isn't some little weird backwards jazz pop CD. I mean, this is a big cheese! Some songs go together with special parts that you really like, and other songs are just plain fun to listen to. My favorite song by far is Let it Ride, and listen to the sample. I think it just plays the lady voice part-but if you listen to this whole song, you get this supercalafragilisticexpialadosis collage of sounds, vocals, and sounds. LISTEN TO THIS CD!

Todd Terry understands electronic music,

Todd Terry has been putting out heavy house tracks for awhile. When I heard this CD, without knowing who it was, I was immediately taken by the strength of the mood. Each song speaks a solid message. I could not believe it was Todd Terry. The transformation from house to this powerfully seamless hybrid of dub, jazz, reggae and industrial is remarkable. The music fulfills the sophistication for straight listening purposes, and several tracks sound like guaranteed floor fillers (thereby capitalizing on some loopiness). Every track has an edge, an uncommon feature of related genres these days. Also, the music dodges any pretense, unlike artists like Tricky.

Despite what everybody might think...,
This review is from: Resolutions (Audio CD)
Despite what most of the reviewers might think I can't deny that this is a hell of a good album. I respect Todd and love his music. Also I have heard enough dnb albums to know that this one is good. Todd is originally a house guru, but even going to the dnb scene hasn't torn off his edges. Listening to this album you hear his view to the world. Hear the things he loves and hates. But most of all you hear the quality of his music and his exceptional ear for vocals. He has chosen the best vocals for his tracks you ever could imagine. His Blackout and Whatcha Know certainly are one of the best "normal"-dnb tracks I've heard. And you can't deny that he knows pretty much about different music styles. There's housy-dnb, jazzy-dnb, darker-dnb etc. To me the laugh [at the end of the album] says in clear words: "You don't and you can't know the true meaning of this album. Only I know." But despite not knowing the true meaning I can enjoy it.

the previous reviewer was right on the money. in short this record is awful. i really wanted to like it. i like(d) tt and was raised on his pioneering house music! + resolutions got rave reviews by the critics. this leaves me dumbfounded. i put the cd in my player with such anticipation but i could not get through any one song without fast forwarding to see if the joke was over and the real music would kick in. not one time. Everything here is cliched and boring. Everything! and his posturing is immature and so tired. with this album he has absolutly nothing to brag about. i happily gave this album away in trade for a blue room sampler (now there is some ferocious music to move you)!

Lately, Todd Terry has been getting a lot of exposure mostly due to his newest album. Why? I have no idea. There was too much expectation here. Although there is the occasional "good" song, the CD lacks variety (big time), while it emphasizes on repetition(big time). You can notice the same break beat behind more than half of the songs. Do not buy.....borrow.
