A Page Turner!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Resort to Murder (Hardcover)
From the first page, I was "sucked" into this book. The characters were interesting and real. I found myself thinking about the characters and the story throughout my day. I couldn't wait to see what would happen to Maggie next. I really liked the fact that Maggie is a teacher - I could relate to her thinking (I'm also a teacher) as she solved the mystery. The author wrote a suspensful and thrilling mystery. You'll love it! I've told all my friends about it!

Murder without Mayhem,
By m. c. wilheit (College Station, TX USA) - See all my reviews

Resort to Murder's unassuming, school-teacher sleuth loves math puzzles and tennis, and the plot bounces back to the '70s to pick up a complication or two. Author Hughes links several murders and uses a minimum of violence to enhance suspence rather than to drench readers in gore. This is just what one would hope for in a Resort; relaxation and refreshment.

I really enjoyed this book. It kept my interest from page one thru to the end. And the end was a surprise. I did not successfully guess the murderer and the story gets exciting near the end which makes it hard to put down. I give it a high rating for enjoyment and suspense.

Spell-binding,

Resort to Murder met my criteria of a spell-binding mystery because it kept me totally absorbed. I wanted to know how the plot unfolded and continued to read until I learned the identify of the murderer and why that person felt compelled to take such drastic steps. An added bonus was being able to relate to the setting because it is near where I live.

Resort to Murder,

As a great fan of cozy mysteries, I thoroughly enjoyed Resort to Murder by Mary Ellen Hughes. There's a little here for everyone to enjoy. Amateur sleuth Maggie Olenski finds herself embroiled in crime when a former student is murdered. The plot is nicely handled, and readers will enjoy this through to its conclusion. Highly recommended.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good Resort to Murder was. I bought it on a whim, thinking the price wouldn't kill me. But Hughes' writing pulled me in from the start and made a fan of me.It's a quiet, gentle kind of mystery, but the characters in Resort to Murder came alive and stayed with me, as has the setting - a vacation resort near a Civil War battlefield (Antietam. It made me wish it all really existed and that I could stay there for a few days - minus the lurking murderer, of course. I recommend it.

Good one!,
This review is from: RESORT TO MURDER (Maggie Olenski series) (Kindle Edition)
If you like Agatha Christie-type mysteries, this one's for you! Set in Maryland instead of England, and with a young teacher on vacation instead of Miss Marple, this book had enough twists and turns and scary moments (but never gory) to keep me very contentedly reading. A little light humor relieved the tension once in a while, but the murders were deadly serious and with a very unexpected solution. I also enjoyed getting to see a part of Maryland I wasn't aware of (mountains and Civil War battlefields). Highly recommended.
