More About the Author

Dan L. Ward is the Chief Workforce Economist for the MITRE Corporation, a not-for-profit organization that runs multiple Federally Funded Research and Development Centers. Dan led advisory support for strategic workforce planning, organization design, people strategy, and change management and provided advice and counsel to a variety of U.S. government agencies. In 2014, Dan moved to an internally focused role to implement strategic workforce planning within MITRE; also to lead the development of MITRE CLEAR Conversations (tm) that replaced traditional performance management with a neuroscience based approach focused on growth and development; plus also developed and deployed an agile career development program called Careers in Motion.

Danny earned his bachelor's degree in social science and his master's in an applied human capital economics program from the University of North Texas. Prior to joining MITRE in 2007, he held senior level roles in HR, Knowledge Management, or Strategic Planning at GTE, Texaco, and EDS. One-third of the Fortune 100 companies have used his counsel on advanced people strategies. He started his career as a management scientist conducting workforce simulation studies for AT&T/Western Electric and Bell Labs.

Ward's cost-benefit studies on alternate staffing strategies have been cited in Fortune, Business Week, the Wall Street Journal, the Work in America Institute, etc. He is the senior editor of AMACOM's 2013 book: Positioned: Strategic Workforce Planning that Gets the Right Person in the Right Job and also the senior editor of HRPS's Best Practices in Human Resource Forecasting and Modeling (1994.) He is an award-winning photographer and has published four photography books.
