Format: Hardcover
The first couple of chapters have a lot of information which leaves the reader overwhelmed and not quite grasping the point of the book: (chapter 1) The Human Resource Function in Perspecitve and (chapter 2) Strategic Planning and the Human Resource Function. At times the authors do not completely explain what they are talking about or mention something and never explain it. However, the remainder of the chapters are broken down into components of what the functions of human resource encompass. The chapters don't completely match the authors' list on page 4, but most of them are covered: information technology; recruitment and selection; induction; development; performance appraisal; compensation; employment continuity; and unionism. I was very confused after reading the first couple of chapters, but as I finished the book, I was able to go back and reread the first two chapters which then made more sense.

This book is a piece of crap. Shame the publisher, the editor, and the writer. This is poorly written, and it contradicts itself. If anyone else has this book I want you to look in Chapter five specifically for disparate impact and disparate treatment. The detals discussed in the chapter are rearranged when you look these terms up in the glossary. What is up with that. I would want my money back for this piece of crap. I guess anybody can write a book. Glad I'm not banking on being the head of some organization's human resource department.

As a doctorate student, my pockets are empty and books are expensive. The recent purchase was in great condition and I even saved a little time because a couple of chapters were already highlighted. I would strongly recommend doing business with this vender. The book arrived in a timely manner and again in great condition.

This book is very informative and is really up to date on the latest laws and trends in HR. However, it is a very dry read.
