It isn't often that a board game can appeal to all ages in a family. But this one does. I bought it for my eight year old boy. But my two college aged kids don't mind playing this game with him.I disagree with the previous reviewer because I thought it was very well made. It has a laminated plastic board that has weathered many, many games and still looks as beautiful as when we opened the box. The little airplanes are just the right size that they don't get left on the carpet when we clean up the game afterward. And the cards are easy to read with tons of information about each country. We have ALL learned so much because of this game. And I know that my son can now find any country in the world. He can even tell you which hemisphere it's in! How many other kids can say that? Geography is a subject that gets discussed less and less in public school. So I say, bring on the games! Let's learn about this big old world we live in.

My son initially played this game at an elderly friends home. It is a laminated map of the world with the flight lines on it in different colors. The colors indicate which route you may take depending on the colors on the dice thrown. There are "take off" cards which indicate where you need to fly to before making it all the way across the world. Sometimes you get half way across and then draw a card that makes you go backwards. It is a fun way to learn which countries are in which continents and their capitols along with the oceans and seas. It is hard to stop playing as you want to make it to the other side!

My children played with TakeOff during their home-schooling days, over a decade ago. When my sister indicated a desire to homeschool her toddler, I immediately bought TakeOff for my sister to begin learning her geography and "world civics" now in order to be ready to teach her daughter in a few years.TakeOff is challenging and fun, and did a great job of holding my children's interest for hours at a time, and for many years as they grew and learned. The company does a great job of regularly updating world information and keeping on top of all the changes we experience on our planet. I recommend it to anyone who is home-schooling, or who just enjoy a good educational game!

Our family has owned this game for years. We have a couple of different ways to play it, depending on the age of the kids playing. You can play a simplified version of it with kids as young as 4 or 5 - all they need to do is move their planes on the colored lines, sort of a cooler version of Candyland. I'm homeschooling my 7th grader this year and he pulled it out today and asked if we could play. It took us about an hour (2 people - 4 planes each)to play it - reading the cards to learn more about world geography - and laughing at each other when we totally mispronounced foreign names. A great (and painless) way to teach and learn geography.Even though we love this game, it does have a few drawbacks. The planes are pretty lightweight, so they are apt to shift if someone bumps the "board". The dice are 8 sided, with colors on 6 sides. All of my boys are red/green color deficient to some degree, and the red and orange are difficult for them to distinguish. Not really a fault of the game. The dice being 8 sided makes them a little more likely to keep on rolling across the table - we just toss the dice into a flat container like a pie pan or flat bottomed bowl. All in all, a great game.

My dad bought this game for my sister and I about 15 years ago and it was so much fun for our entire family. Now, I am a 3rd grade teacher and I have brought it for my class to play. They absolutely love it. It has stood the test of time as far as durability and appeal.

i think that the rules of the game could be vastly improved. this business of leaving you to figure out what rules are best for you is stupid. it is still a good source of information

Description sounded really cool. My kids did not like playing it. Said it was too complicated moving the airplanes around, cheaply made. It was just okay.
