From the Inside Flap

Competition for resources, expanding service demands, and calls for accountability are just a few of the issues challenging the more than two million nonprofit organizations in the United States to maximize their effectiveness and efficiency in order to survive.

To help nonprofits create an effective work environment, Human Resource Policies and Procedures for Nonprofit Organizations provides a reliable framework for developing sound human resource management policies and procedures that will improve an organization’s recruitment, motivation, and retention of a qualified workforce. This comprehensive resource also guides organizations in reducing the risk of lawsuits and claims by offering accessible knowledge of relevant laws and advice for implementing good employment practice policies for paid employees, volunteer workers, and outsourced work.

Human Resource Policies and Procedures for Nonprofit Organizations’s user-friendly explanations covering critical human resource policies and procedures are amply supplemented with examples of related forms and auxiliary information. Scores of included sample policies, procedures, and forms are easily adaptable to any size nonprofit organization. Extensive checklists are also provided to ensure a proper, step-by-step implementation process.

5.0 out of 5 stars D. Linke review of Human Resources Policies and Procedures, December 16, 2004
I have used forms and checklists from this book most recently with a large arts organization. We got excellent results because the materials are well-indexed, easy to understand, and easy to adapt for immediate use.

Every leader we have worked with involved in either nonprofit organization accountability or in competition for funding and other resources benefitted greatly from having this book within ready reach.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where is the CD?, March 6, 2007
This review is from: Human Resource Policies and Procedures for Nonprofit Organizations (Paperback)
After reading the job description, I assumed that this book came with a CD loaded with sample policies. Yet when I received it, it was only a book. So beware - if you want some sample policies on a CD, this is not the book for you.
