Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Although most older people have at least one chronic medical condition, nearly one third of Americans age 65 or older are able to live alone. But 23 percent of the elderly population require help with bathing, dressing , or eating, and 27 percent need assistance with household chores. This book, a substantial expansion of the first edition published in 1990, offers a guide to the multitude of services, organizations, products, and publications available to elders with physical disabilities. It covers impairments common to older people--e.g., arthritis, low vision, hearing loss, stroke, and Parkinson's disease. Entries include an overview of the condition--incidence, effects, and treatment--with lists of service providers, books and tapes, organizations, and references to professional and consumer literature on the subject. The large-print format makes it especially useful for older readers. Highly recommended.
