Sound Bites of the Day. A Reference with Context., October 29, 2011
This review is from: Respectfully quoted: A dictionary of quotations requested from the Congressional Research Service (Hardcover)
This book lists the request by leaders of the United States government to confirm the sources and context of different quotations they intended to use in their own speeches or writings. These were the sound bites of `the day' and are as much revealing in wisdom as it is into the motives of the requesting individuals.
The work is unique in that I have rarely seen such detail provided for a collection of quotations. A quote's source is listed as well as the context. Occasionally the requestors usage is listed. The references are mostly thoroughly concise.
Listed are some surprising quotations such as quotations never spoken by the originator as in the case of quotation 52 quoting a speech intended by President John F. Kennedy to the Trade Mart; his destination when he was assassinated. Many quotes are from recognizable sources such as presidents and a select are from notable figures of history.
The tome is of the highest quality construction: hard cover, heavy binding, high quality paper and superior print; a quality to match the reputation of the Library of Congress who published it.
The book is organized by subject, which seems most appropriate for this book. Each of the 2,100 quotes is numbered for easy reference and recall. There are over 100 pages of author and subject indices. Both are well developed. This book is designed like it is intended to be a frequently used reference.
