This is the most difficult book to use. The answers to the self-assessment questions are not available to students. My instructor had not downloaded the answers, so those exercises were worthless. If the answers are not going to be available to you, don't buy it. This is the ONLY textbook I've sold after the class was over. You'll be lucky to get $5 for it.

One might expect that the errors in this book would have been corrected, especially considering 1) the extraordinary cost of the book, 2) the fact that the author has dedicated it to his entire family, and 3) that this is the 4th edition. You would think he would make the time to fix the mistakes. For instance, there are errors in the logarithm section. More importantly though, this text book completely misses its audience who are first year respiratory care students often with only middle school math skills. Some sections cover the very basics such as adding negative and positive numbers, while other sections attempt to explain college level physics. This dichotomous approach makes no sense. Worse, the explanations are often quite confusing. The sections on physics and statistics miss by a great deal. Students would benefit greatly by not having to purchase such a high priced smorgasbord which accomplishes so little. The only benefit of owning this book is as a reference for many formulas; however, this can also be found free on the internet. I highly do not recommend this book. I will personally give mine away to next year students.
