Format: Paperback
Bruno Barrett's response to Wetlands is a welcome psychoanalysis of Charlotte Roche or should I say her arguably autobiographical protagonist Helen Memel. Marc Mann, the young psychotherapist, exposes Helen's extreme sex addiction and rejection of social conventions regarding personal hygiene as a manifestation of her subconscious anger towards her mother during his psychotherapy sessions with the much-hyped heroine of the Wetlands book. But that's not all of it. Among other things Barrett also takes it upon himself to at least try to undo the damage done by Roche's interpretation of post post-modern feminism and point out that young men are also in need of an emancipation movement. Great read, even though or maybe because I haven't finished reading Wetlands yet.
