I am prone to urinary tract infections and these strips are an economical way to test frequently, and they are accurate for that purpose (I haven't used them for any of the other parameters). They are much more economical to use than the Azo strips that cost about $3 each.I can't understand why people complain that the colors run together if you don't hold the strips horizontally. All you have to do is follow the instructions, folks! Hold the strip horizontally! What's the big deal? It's important to time the test accurately. I use a kitchen minute timer. A certain level of leukocytes in the urine is normal, and you'll get a false positive if you leave the strip for much longer than that. (The test is for leukocytes, not bacteria - leukocytes are white blood cells, which are the body's response to infection.) It's designed to be accurate at two minutes; be attentive to that instruction. For people prone to chronic UTIs, I highly recommend Cranstat, a blend of herbs and cranberry extract. I take this at first sign of trouble on test strip, and the test always clears in a day or two. Much better for you than repeated use of antibiotics. However, if you wait too long and the infection becomes acute, Cranstat may not work. That's why I test at least once every three days.

I've used both these and the name brand (multistix). For some reason, I prefer the name brand. That may be simply because I started with the expensive brand.I've read some of the other posts concerning accuracy (e.g. someone commented about trace amounts of protein showing up in tap water. I thought that was interesting, so I tried it. My results were somewhere between none and trace (matched neither shade perfectly. I'd suggest keeping a few things in mind. For one thing, these test strips aren't made to replace certified laboratory tests, or 24 hour urine tests. Secondly, they are very time dependent (when they say check the color after 45 seconds..there is a reason ;-). Another complaint I read above, is that the colors will bleed. I can promise you that the name brand (costing 2-3 times this amount) will also bleed. My solution to this problem is to immediately blot the excess urine(along the side of the strip) with a tissue, or a cotton pad. All in all..I don't think the name brand is worth 2-3 times as much

Great product, but has to be used properly,

I worked in a vet clinic for over 2 years and these were the strips we used. I buy them now to test my five dogs, two of whom are extremely prone to UTI's.There are a few tricks I've used to make them work the best. First off, I never dip the entire strip into the sample and I always do the test on a paper towel. I pull up the sample with a syringe and do one drop onto each box of the strip. After that, I turn the strip on it's side so that the edge of each box is touching the paper towel for just a second to get the excess urine off. If you submerge the strip in the sample, sometimes things can run together and it can invalidate some results. Second of all, the specific gravity is not very reliable in these tests so I would not use them specifically for that. The last tip I can give is to make sure you read the results at the given times. The only negative I can say about this product is that I wish they sold them in smaller quantities because it's highly unlikely for someone to be able to use an entire bottle in just 3 months! However, in my case the price of a whole bottle is less than even one urinalysis at my vet clinic!

I'm on low carb so I bought these mostly for ketosis - and the color coding is great. They are very very easy to use.I like that I can see that I'm normal in everything else. Considering you get 100 strips, the price difference between this and ketone-only strips is really worth it. I can speak to the accuracy of the specific gravity and the ketone tests. When I've been really good on low carb the test definitely shows it. And when I'm dehydrated (more concentrated urine) the test also detects that. It shows what I expect. I think these are great strips to have. If you're on low carb, spend the extra dollars and just find out how you're doing in so many other ways. It's great to regularly get the same data you'd get if you went to a lab. I'd probably keep these around even if I weren't on low-carb. Take one every month or whatever just as a checkup.

I think it's worth noting that the instruction says "opened bottle should be used within 90 days of first opening." With 100 strips, that's more than one test each day. I guess now I know why it also says "for professional use only."

I bought this to test protein in urine. It showed trace protein readings on every test I did, so my wife suggested that we test filtered water... interestingly enough, it showed trace protein in filtered water too :)

I use these to check on the PH level of the urine for one of my cats. The reason why I bought these specifically is because they also indicate blood in the urine (which always indicates a urinary tract infection) and compared to the testing my vet did they indicate the same things reliably (everything else can not be compared and used for animals anyways esp. some of those will produce false positives when tested on animals). Sure you have to use a clean container etc. to have a reliable outcome. For what I needed them they work great and the good by date gives me a year to use them. No complaints whatsoever here.

All 'test strips' are time sensitive. In a 30 second assay your reading will differ from the reading at one minute. The instructions for these strips are exceedingly clear as to when to take your readings. Test strips are also sensitive to their environment, so take care to keep them from light, high temperatures, and moisture. I keep mine in the fridge next to the chutney. These strips have high accuracy; my results are recorded nightly, and the results when compared with the results from another Chem10 through a urine chemistry analyzer were very close to my record. Like with many strips the reagent will run after they are wet, but a light blot of toilet tissue along the side and some attentiveness to keeping it horizontal help ensure no contamination of results. All in all, a product limited only by our capacity to read them appropriate for anyone who wants to keep personal records and doesn't have access to a urine chemistry analyzer. To anyone who might be skeptical of their quality because of the relatively low price, the 'name brand' sticks are designed to be machine read and are only more accurate if analyzed by the appropriate urine chemistry analyzer. I plan to purchase these again when I run low.

Good and easy tester. The colors are very good to read. The 2 bad things about it are:1- the very fine print on the bottle colors, very hard to read the values. They should be printed somewhere big to read. I had to buy a magnifier so I can read the prints on each color. 2- The documentation is informative, but not as much as the site information. Although, both are not enough for plain English explanation.

These work good and had good instructions. I used it mainly for ketones. The only problem is that i didn't screw the top down good and later i learned that exposing it to any moisture ruins several of the tests. I found out because I was not reading any ketones any more while on my diet.
