About the Author

Cate Dean has been writing since she could hold a pen in her hand and put more than two words together on paper. She grew up losing herself in the wilds of fantasy worlds, and has had some of her own adventures while tromping through the UK, and a few other parts of the world. A lover of all things supernatural, she infuses that love into her stories, giving them a unique edge. When she's not writing, she loves cooking, scaring herself silly in the local cemeteries, and reading pretty much anything she can get her hands on.

There - I got the official biography out of the way. I love to write, and yes, I have been doing it most of my life. I've made up stories in my head for as long as I can remember, and I am thrilled to be able to write them down and share them with you.

I love writing different types of stories, and jump from fantasy, to paranormal, and over to romance. So many genres, so little time...

I'm stunned that someone did not do a better editing job with this book. Became very confused and a bit miffed that I almost did not finish. To know I did finish must give you a clue that I did enjoy the story line and wanted to know what happened to the characters. However, back to the why I was miffed. You are reading along and all of the sudden you get a feeling of deja by. Wait, I've read this already. So you go back a page or two to find that you are indeed reading the same thing twice and you don't know what happens next because it's not there. You can guess, not the same. This occurs quite a bit throughout. Some better editing; thankfully I did not pay for book, but am interested in knowing what happens to Claire, Anne, Eric, Marcus, and even Natasha.

This novella feels like a novel - it's got meat! Rest for the Wicked takes you on a journey. With characters that will pull you in and tons of action, you won't be able to put the book down. This read is intense. I can't wait to see what happens next in the lives of the characters.

Note: This novel has adult contact with graphic, violent action scenes. This ain't no Harry Potter, as we might say in the South.

I have to say I love Cate Dean. Her books are fresh, unexpected, and unique. Rest For The Wicked - The Claire Wiche Chronicles Book 1 is an individual take on the traditional witch fantasy tale. Cate takes the fantasy tale of witches and throws in a little Jinn (male genie) and some demons for good measure. I was kept guessing right to the very end.
I'm really glad it's Book 1 because that means we will be seeing more of these characters, and I fell in love with them all. Sometimes a book ends and you are satisfied with where the characters are and what has happened to them, or you know enough to be able to picture how the story ends. I sooooo didn't get that with this book. I want to know more, much more.
I give this book 4.5 out of 5 clouds, and anxiously await book 2 (see fingers tapping anxiously on table as I wait).

I read this bbok one Sunday afternoon. It kept me interested and if you can buy it without paying very much I would recommend it's reading. Be aware it is the 1st book in a series and the end is a cliffhanger.

I liked the book that was really a short story; I found Claire to be rather remarkable and loved the Annie friend, as well as the guys. It was great - until the rather large dissapointment of looking up the series of BOOKS and finding that they're not books, and they are very much over priced for Kindle shorts.

Well, at least one review said it had a bad ending, so that consoles me a bit. But still....I don't like feeling manipulated into wanting more and having to pay double the price for half a book!

Three stars given because it was interesting and well written - with a smidgen (or more) of disbelief required.

Claire Wiche runs a Wicca shop in the town of Santa Luna, California. It appears to be a nice life, complete with a best friend named Annie who is a witch with a lot to learn about controling the craft. Claire is ready to help but the arrival of two strangers quickly confirms Claire's worst fears. Her past has caught up with her and she has to face a formidable enemy or die trying.

Rest For the Wicked is the first in this cozy mystery series, but there were problems. The point of view, scene changes and introduction of characters, were so abrupt that it was difficult to figure out what was going on in the first few chapters. One of the strangers, Marcus, who is a Jinn (genie) arrives to help, although how and why isn't explained. The other stranger, Eric, has clear reasons for showing up, but once Claire has banished the spell possessing him all is good. In a few short days, Claire, Annie, Eric, and Marcus are so strongly attached that they're all crying when one another is hurt. For those who don't mind quick scenes that get to the action with little explanation, then you'll like this story.

At the end of the book, the author provides a list of explanations and descriptions of terms with respect to crystals, Jinns, and other things. Half of the explanations weren't necessary. I'm pretty sure most readers are familiar with the terms and meanings behind Lucifer, holy water, and love spells. As for other definitions, the information provided should have been incorporated into the story as they provide the useful background information I was looking for. It also would have fleshed out the story and created a better book.

This book captured my attention from the beginning and kept it through the entire book. I loved this story and the author's style of writing. She knows how to tell a story and keep your attention. I could easily picture the characters and became emotionally attached to each one. This is a heaven versus hell type of story with demons, fallen angels, witches, Jinn's and humans. Claire is a fallen Angel who was thrown into hell when she sided with other Angel 's against God. She became a demon and lived an evil life for centuries until one day she showed compassion by trying to save a drowning child. The child's parents die and the child but Claire is thrown into the body of the child and the body her demon self was inhabiting dies. She becomes an orphan child. Once she becomes an adult she opens a shop that sells candles, crystals, jewelry etc and does tarot readings. Claire's best friend is an inexperienced witch and doesn't know about her past and that she's really a fallen Angel/Demon. This story is exciting to read with non stop action. I laughed, I cried, and at times it was gripping. I'm ready to purchase the rest of the books in the series so I can find out what happens. This to me was a well written fantasy. I have a new favorite author.
