1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CD!, January 30, 2007

This review is from: Rest on Me (Audio CD)
The speed of the "source" (record) used to make this CD played way too slow. You hear occasional pops from the record as well. The track "It Takes Time" (on the LP originally) is missing -- it probably skipped!

Also BEWARE of the same CD retitled 'Sweet Love Song Of My Soul' -- same

lousy sound quality and speed issue.

Kim Carnes herself, is not pleased with this release and doesn't even want it being sold as.

Maybe someday, someone will get it right.

3.0 out of 5 stars country and pop from 1970, October 31, 2004

This review is from: Rest on Me (Audio CD)
The tracks on this album date back to the late 1960s and early 1970s, when Kim Carnes began her long struggle to make it as a solo artist. This was her first album, released in 1970 on the short-lived Amos label. It was produced by rockabilly legend Jimmy Bowen, with whom she'd link up again 18 years later for her first album for MCA, 'View From The House'.

Track listing:

Sweet Love Song To My Soul

Everything Has Got To Be Free

Do You Want To Dance

I Won't Call You Back

To Love

To Love Somebody

Fell In Love With A Poet

One More River To Cross

You Can Do It To Me Anytime

Rest On Me

You may recognize 'To Love' from Carole King's first album, or 'To Love Somebody' by the Bee Gees. Although the sound quality is very good, the production sounds very dated, so this record is not quite my cup of tea. It puts me in the mind of early Olivia Newton-John albums, aimed at both country and pop radio. But if you remember the sound of seventies radio, or just want to hear some rarities featuring Kim's lovely voice, this CD is worth checking out. I also wish that Magnum had been able to use the original cover photo that accompanied this music, rather than the strange pink cover from another era.

When this review was written in late 2004, Kim had just released a new CD featuring songs of this nature...if this CD interests you, I'd recommend a visit to her website for the latest news and complete discography.
