5.0 out of 5 stars Aye, ye got to love those pirates...., August 11, 2007

Love 2 Read Novels "Sherry" (a small town in Kansas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Restitution (Legacy of the King's Pirates, Book 3) (Paperback)
This story centers around Lady Isabel Ashton and Captain Kent Carlton, both whom you met in The Reliance. Isabel has been shunned by her family because of her illegitimate son, Frederick. Kent has searched everywhere for Lady Ashton (the woman he could not forget). Finally he runs in to Richard Sawkins, a nobleman who tells him of Frederick existance. Frederick is then kidnapped and Isabel is beside herself. Kent shows up and vows to help her find her/their son. She is apprehensive about him helping but agrees feeling she has no other choice. Once aboard his ship she finds that he has made a big effort to see to her needs. Kent treats her with the upmost respect and kindness. Through the story you see both hearts changing. Can Isabel ever trust the pirate who ravished her and caused her to loose her title and wealth? Will Kent be willing to give up everything for Isabel and Frederick?

The story is a page-turner and will keep you up long into the night to find out what happens next. In the Reliance you saw a little change in Captain Carlton but... in the Restitution you see a change in Kent that makes him a worthy hero. I fell in love with him. You can feel the love he has for Lady Ashton and their son.

One thing I was hoping for was to see Merrick and Charlisse again but they were only mentioned in the beginning.

You could read this as a stand alone book but I would highly recommend you read the other two first for the complete story. The Redemption, The Reliance and The Restitution.

Great work MaryLu. I look forward to her next book The Falcon and the Sparrow due out Summer of 2008.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swashbuckling and faith on the High Seas, October 26, 2007
This review is from: The Restitution (Legacy of the King's Pirates, Book 3) (Paperback)
The joy of reading this book, the third in the Legacy of the King's Pirates Series, is matched by the contented sigh when you finish it and the sorrow that there is not one more coming. Often, sequels are not as good as the original book. If that is what holds you back from this one, ignore it. MaryLu Tyndall has mastered the art of telling the story in a sequel and making it better than its predecessor.

Lady Isabel Ashton returned home from her captivity only to be shunned by her own people, her own family. After giving birth to her son, Frederick, the product of a pirate's attack, she is on her own. Even so, she clings to the hope of marrying a nobleman and restoring her position in society. Then her precious child is kidnapped.

Captain Kent Carlton, desires nothing more than Isabel's forgiveness and searches for her. He finds nobleman, Richard Sawkins and information concerning not only the birth of Fredrick, his son, but also the kidnapping. Kent determines to find his son and return Frederick to his mother and perhaps win her heart in the process. But what if it costs him his entrance into the Brethren of the Coast?

Isabel's young faith is tested as she watches the man who ravished her risk everything to save her and find their son. Can such an evil man change? Is her faith strong enough to be all she lives on? Which treasure on earth will she hold, money and position or love and hope?

MaryLu Tyndall has outdone herself. In some ways, you may like this book better than the first. Sit down to read this and taste the salty air, smell the seaports and feel the action as page by page you travel into a world of pirates, deception, love, and faith

5.0 out of 5 stars Another exciting pirate adventure, September 10, 2007
This review is from: The Restitution (Legacy of the King's Pirates, Book 3) (Paperback)
In The Restitution, MaryLu Tyndall not only continued her thought provoking and action packed series set in the pirate-filled waters of the Caribbean, but she takes it to the next level. Her character development is strong and you'll find yourself cheering for characters you never thought you'd even tolerate, hurting with characters you've grown to love, and celebrating their victories in the battles of the high seas and the heart.

As in the previous books of this series Tyndall weaves the spiritual thread easily through the action packed scenes. This time she tackles the questions of "Can God redeem the most ruthless people?"; "What is most important-what is visible, or what is in the heart?" and "How can you trust God in the midst of incredibly challenging circumstances?"

If you enjoyed the first two books in this series, you won't be disappointed is this exciting pirate adventure.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise, August 7, 2007
This review is from: The Restitution (Legacy of the King's Pirates, Book 3) (Paperback)
After reading the Reliance, I was a bit worried that this third chapter in the Legacy of the King's Pirates would be a let down as well, but luckily it wasn't. Though, not as enjoyable as the first, the Redemption, it's still a great story- with lots of swashbuckling adventure, intrigue, and sweet romance. Lady Isabel Ashton is not always a relatable heroine- oftentimes she comes off as whiny and annoying, but overall her character and her change in feelings regarding Captain Carlton is a sweet exchange to witness. At the end of the Reliance, I was a bit worried that Kent would come off as a `bad guy' because of his past actions and personality. But surprisingly enough, he does, eventually, make a dashing sort of hero, despite that rocky past. He is reminiscent of Merrick in the Redemption, always with a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a smirk in his smile. I suppose his change in character and the change in his treatment of Isabel makes him the more appealing, for the pirate that is. On the downside, the plot is quite predictable and more preachy than the previous two; it's still a good read. I wish Charlisse and Merrick had a cameo part - but they were mentioned but only in passing.

Overall a great read- I hope that this isn't the last of the series. And that future installments are better able to capture the magic of the first, the Redemption, which is still the best in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Restitution, July 4, 2008
This review is from: The Restitution (Legacy of the King's Pirates, Book 3) (Paperback)
The Redemption, the Reliance and the Restitution are probably the best 3 Christian Historical Romance books I have ever read. I just could not put them down. Mary Lu Tyndall knows how to grasp your attention and not let it go. I truly felt as if I were on each ship and personally knew each character. Wow, that to me is the perfect reading experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!!, October 18, 2007
By
This review is from: The Restitution (Legacy of the King's Pirates, Book 3) (Paperback)
What can a say . . . I absolutely loved THE RESTITUTION! I waited anxiously for its release and was not disappointed. The third in the Legacy of the King's Pirates series, by M.L. Tyndall has it all. From captivating characters to a wonderful storyline that unfolded with incredible surprises, THE RESTITUTION was exhilarating. I could not put it down!

THE RESTITUTION unfolds as Lady Isabel Ashton finds out her illegitimate son, the result of the treacherous act of a rogue pirate, is kidnapped. She is horrified and desperate to find her son. But when Captain Kent Carlton, the pirate that ravished her offers his help she is perplexed in what she should do. She will do anything to get back her son, but can she subject herself to the terror she feels just being in his presence?

Captain Kent Carlton is anything but the treacherous pirate that once forced himself upon Lady Ashton. When he finds out her son . . . his son has been kidnapped by his enemy as a form of retribution, he offers his help, his ship, and anything else Lady Ashton wants, hoping he can show her that he's changed.

The rest is a wonderfully woven together story of fear, hurt, hate, love, and forgiveness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another for the can't put down list from Mary Lu Tyndall, October 17, 2007
By
This review is from: The Restitution (Legacy of the King's Pirates, Book 3) (Paperback)
I cannot believe Mary Lu got me to like Kent! I never thought that would be possible.

Lady Isabel Ashton is the main character in this one. You hear Merrick and Charlisse mentioned one time in the first few chapters of the book. But all that is said is they are living in North Carolina now. I was really upset at them not returning. I thought early on - I was not going to enjoy it as much for in the last book I was not fond of Isabel and Kent as characters.

So at first I started the book with a chip on my shoulder. But as soon as she got the story going I was hooked. Once again, Mary Lu wrote a book that I could not put down.

This book had two situations unfolding. The story of Kent and Isabel and one of Hann seeking revenge for his/her brother. What a suprise twist on that character.

If you read the first two, this is one you have to read. And it will not let you down.

The only thing that bothered me about these books were the cover art. All three girls looked different on the front. So if we assume the first book had Charlisse on it, and this last one Lady Isabel, which one was on the second cover? It did not resemble either of the others. And the guy on the second also did not fit with the other books. But that was about all I did not like about these three books.

5.0 out of 5 stars She Saved the Best for Last!, September 16, 2007
This review is from: The Restitution (Legacy of the King's Pirates, Book 3) (Paperback)
With The Restitution, book three in the Legacy of the Kings Pirates series, M. L. Tyndall has indeed saved the best for last--and that's saying a lot, because I loved the first two.

You know how I hate to give away a good story...so I won't. But I will say that The Restitution has been one of the most satisfying pirate stories I have ever read--with a few stunning surprises thrown in to boot.

After reading The Redemption and The Reliance, I had already been recommending M. L. Tyndall books right and left. But since reading The Restitution, I have become a died-in-the-wool Tyndall fan.

MaryLu, how do you think this stuff up?

5.0 out of 5 stars terrific inspirational historical romance, September 10, 2007
This review is from: The Restitution (Legacy of the King's Pirates, Book 3) (Paperback)
Notorious pirate Kent Carlton seduced and ruined Isabel Ashton. Without a second look back to see how she was doing, he left her unaware she is pregnant. Her parents treated her like a pariah and totally ignored their grandson Frederick as if he was the devil instead of an innocent child.

In 1669 when Frederick is kidnapped, Isabel, in Port Royal, Jamaica, has no choice except turn to Kent, a man she loathes. Whereas she also turns to God praying for her son's safe return, Kent scoffs at her as he prefers mortal intervention rather than unreliable miracles to save their offspring. Meanwhile Isabel realizes that her hatred of Kent is a means of coping as she loves him and prays for his soul.

The third Legacy of the King's Pirates (see RELIANCE and REDEMPTION) will grab reader's attention from the moment that Frederick is abducted and not let go until the climax. The story line is fast-paced yet contains incredible levels of detail so much so fans will feel they are in seventeenth century Port Royal. Throughout the exciting tale, M.L. Tyndale showcases without preaching or intruding how much Isabel believes in the Lord even as she feels her faith is being tested; she compares quite fascinatingly to her beloved cynical pirate who believes in the sword not the word. Fans will enjoy this terrific inspirational historical romance while also wondering just like Kent does how strong the heroine's faith is if they fail to rescue Frederick.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite in the series!, August 25, 2007
This review is from: The Restitution (Legacy of the King's Pirates, Book 3) (Paperback)
All of the books in the Legacy of the King's Pirates series have been awesome, but this story was probably the best of them all. It's a difficult task to take someone who was so unlikeable in previous books - Captain Carlton - and make him someone you want to see Lady Ashton choose to love and spend the rest of her life with. The author has such rich, emotional characters and so much depth to her stories that it's hard to not feel sad when the story ends. I enjoyed this novel to the last page, because when it comes to torturing her characters, M.L. Tyndall is the queen of tension. The Restitution was riveting.

I also loved how Tyndall created pirate cuss words without having the characters actually swear. Her skill with the English language and her ability to describe things is incredible. This is an author who puts you in every scene--from the stench of the filth inside the ship to the hair-raising fear experienced by the characters. And the faith element was once again believable. There is no easy faith on pirate ships, but God shows His love in impossible, but true-to-life situations. This is an author I will not miss. Every book she writes is a treasure and I highly recommend them all.
