Coping with RLS,
By Alive n Kicking "Elda" (New Jersey, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Restless Legs Syndrome: Coping with Your Sleepless Nights (American Academy of Neurology) (Paperback)
If you have (or know someone who has) Restless Legs Syndrome, this book is an excellent resource. The subjects are covered in a detailed but easy-to-understand way, and I have found much help for this affliction. I even bought another copy to give to our RLS Support Group Leader!

Great resource for patients....or doctors,
By GF in IL (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Restless Legs Syndrome: Coping with Your Sleepless Nights (American Academy of Neurology) (Paperback)
Clearly written, with chapters on what RLS really is, RLS and children, and coping with RLS - this book is an excellent resource in many ways. If you are not sure how to approach your doctor, there is advice. If you want to know more about your options regarding medication, it's covered. Reading it, for the first time, you may feel that someone finally understands what it's like to be you.
Written for the person with RLS, it also can help family and friends understand what their loved one is going through. RLS sounds like such an odd thing; some people even question if it's real. If someone in your life has RLS and you haven't taken it seriously or want to know more, please surprise the RLSer in your life and buy this. It will help you understand how difficult this chronic disorder can be for those who have a moderate or severe form of it. It can also help the physician help better understand the RLS patient. For physicians, if you can only read one book, buy the Hening, Buchfurer and Lee book, Clinical Management of Restless Legs Syndrome, instead as it provides more detailed information regarding medication options, augmentation, and handling difficult cases.

This review is from: Restless Legs Syndrome: Coping with Your Sleepless Nights (American Academy of Neurology) (Paperback)
The author provides a very good description of Restless Leg Syndrome and Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. He describes all the current medicinal solutions to these problems and some non-traditional remedies. However, you should still see your doctor to discuss your treatment. Also, if you believe you suffer from PLMD, have sleep studies done periodically. I was prescribed Requip for my PLMD in 2005 and just assumed I would have to take it for the rest of my life. When the Requip started making me excessively sleepy during the day I consulted my general physician. I then got another sleep study done by another doctor. The results showed that I no longer had PLMD. Apparantly, PLMD can come and go throughout your lifetime. I am now off the Requip and doing much better.

The book was new and arrived quickly. There is a lot of usefull information in it. I especially liked that it lists medication that are not only helpful but also medications you should not take. I would order from this vendor again.
