I downloaded this album in MP3 because I didn't want to wait for the physical CD to get here. I heard "Restless Rubes" for the first time yesterday and I can't get it out of my head. Not because it's catchy (though it is), it's because Ninja Gun have crafted such a thoughtful, original album that it really sticks with you. "Restless Rubes" is heartfelt and intelligent with roots in country, punk, and indie rock. I know that sounds like an odd combination that would most likely be the result of some kitschy hipster side-project but believe me, this is the real deal. This is an album of real substance. I wish more bands in the south had the guts to make something this honest.

Having traversed the entire alt-country genre with Uncle Tupelo, the Jayhawks, etc, I really had not heard anything all that fresh or innovative recently until a friend recommended this CD. Of the 40-50 CD's I've bought over the past few years, this is easily in the top 5 - must have.
