Classic 21st Century Soul with 70s space jazz influences,

The long-awaited debut of Clara Hill -- one of the best soul singers to emerge from the European scene in recent years! This album's as pure a document of 21st Century Soul as we've heard yet this millenium -- a brilliant blend of voice, beats, and keys -- all filtered through a style that's steeped in classic 70s space jazz influences, but which also beats with the pulse of the current Neo Soul underground. The criss-crossing of styles is really wonderful -- giving Clara a sound that's uniquely her own, and which is sure to put this one at the top of our lists for a long time to come! Titles include "Here", "Flawless", "Restless Times", "For Your Love", "Silent Distance", "Morning Star", and "The Source". (Reviewed at www.dustygroove.com)

Glad she stepped out onto the stage and put her own project out. I was familiar with her through her work with Jazznova...but I didn't think, she'd make a project this superior. Just put it on and let the CD play...and I guarantee people will ask you who it is playing in the background. Never fails!
Excellent flow on this CD. You want some company to chill out or take a nice long ride to no where with, play this. If you want to take a leisurely bath and light some candles, but don't really want to put on something that will make you nod off..well this CD is hip enough to keep you awake, yet chilled enough to relax you.

I've been listening to a lot besides jazz over the last 4 or 5 years. Praying that some radio station would catch on to all the stuff that's going on outside of the main stream. This disc was recommended by a friend and at the same time I heard the tune "That Easy" a while back on KCRW. She's got a great voice and the music is burnin cool.... I hope you enjoy this disc as much as I do

Wow!!!! If you are into nu-jazz, nu-soul, broken beat, what have you, this cd has it. Ms. Hill creates atmosphere, and boy is there alot of atmosphere here. If your likes consist of The Rurals, Micatone, Beady Belle, or anything Sonar Kollektiv then this will be your cup of tea. Glad to see other people from Chicago into Clara.

Behind every great band should stand a great woman. It stands to reason then, that behind these six cats who make up the broken-beat-nujazz masters Jazzanova there would be six great women. However, in the case of Clara Hill it only takes one woman stepping to the forefront to even up the creative power between the sexes. Her name shouldn't be new to any fan of Jazzanova. She appeared on Jazzanova's "In Between" album as the vocalist on "No Use". Now she steps out from behind the scene with executive producers Jazzanova, for her full-length debut, "Restless Times". This CD is on constant rotation in my CD collection. Electronic and Nujazz headz, run and grab this one quickly.stand out joints: For Your Love oNe

I was on a road trip with some friends when I heard this playing in the car. My friend said, "I cant believe you havent heard of her!" Well, I hadnt, but I'm glad I did. The beats on this album are addictive, and Clara's voice is soothing and stimulating at the same time. I love the entire cd, but some of my faves (that get the most play on the iPod)are:
That Easy Silent Distance Here I'm There Morning Star This is a great cd to listen to on a road trip (which I'm always on). I have also dug into her cuts with Jazzanova (who I love). This cd isnt so much a lounge cd as say Aya, but its a fantastic solo debut. Hard to categorize, but I wouldnt want to. POSTSCRIPT: I meant to give it five stars but wasnt paying attention. This is a five star cd.

Anything Miss Hill does, whether in solo, duet, or with Jazzanova, should be bought without hesitation. I wish I'd known about her a long time ago. No going wrong here or wondering if...this'll be money on music well spent.

I've became familiar with Clara Hill via Jazzanova, my favorite nujazz/brokenbeat group. Both Jazzanova and Clara Hill are based in Germany. This is good music you will never hear on mainstream American radio. It's positive and I dig the vibes. I look forward to more from Jazzanova and Clara Hill
