Travelers are a restless tribe and author Stephen Ausherman is one of their most active members. Nomadic, almost solitary, he exists in a state of perpetual dislocation, an ideal vantage point for observing people and places on the edge of chaos. Culled from over a decade of travel through nations as diverse as Iraq, China, Vietnam, and Northern Ireland, Restless Tribes gives the reader a unique insight into the people, cultures, and politics of a dozen nations on five continents.
Stephen Ausherman served as an Artist-in-Residence for:
C-Scape at Cape Cod National Seashore, MA (2010)
Blue Sky Project in Woodstock, IL (2008)
Cornucopia Art Center in Lanesboro, MN (2007)
He was also the 2005 Writer-in-Residence for:
Bernheim Forest (KY)
Devils Tower National Monument (WY)
Buffalo National River (AR)
In pursuit of stories as a freelance journalist, Ausherman interviewed witchdoctors in the foothills of Kilimanjaro and crisscrossed Iraq in an Oldsmobile. He also taught English in Korea and China.
Born in China and raised in North Carolina, Ausherman took an unscheduled detour to New Mexico in 1996. He has lived there ever since.
