Does German Metal Get Any Better??!!!,
By
This review is from: Restless & Wild (Audio CD)
From the moment the very first scream shatters the calm of the German folk music, you know you are in for one heck of a ride. I've been listening to Accept for nearly twenty years, and to this day, Restless and Wild makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. From the speed of "Fast as a shark" to the galloping guitars of "restless and wild", this album will have you rocking uncontrollably! When Accept order you to "Shake your Heads", trust me, you will obey. When you hear the hammer strike the anvil in "Demon's Night", you'll feel a chill in your bones. Accept has produced some great material over the years, and Udo's solo albums have all helped satisfy my craving for his unique vocals, but in my opinion, "Restless and Wild" is the one that can't be matched. As fast as it is infectious, this album is one for the history books. Not a bad song present, raw and powerful. This album will wear you out, But trust me, you'll collapse with smile on your face.

One of Two Best Albums,
By Octavius (United States) - See all my reviews

'Metal Heart' and 'Balls to the Wall' are the more recognized albums produced by this German hybrid version of AC/DC and Judas Priest but I think this album along with 'Breaker' are their best works. They are more original and have just a meaner edge. Udo Dirkschneider is a reasonably good singer with a voice similar to AC/DC's Brian Johnson and Wolf Hoffmann is a good lead guitarist. This album starts out great with 3 hard songs: 'Fast As A Shark',' Restless And Wild', and 'Ahead Of The Pack.' 'Demons Night' is another good one. The rest is OK: a good finale with the slow 'Princess Of The Dawn.' For those deciding which Accept to get, I would choose this album and 'Breaker' over 'Metal Heart' and 'Balls to the Wall.' These are their best albums in my book: heavier and more original.

What it Meant to be Metal,
This review is from: Restless & Wild (Audio CD)
Arguably one of the greatest metal albums ever recorded. Having grown up in this era (class of '85) no one is more qualified to comment on "real" metal than me!
If you haven't heard this, buy it and bow down to the greatest metal opus since Motorhead did Ace of Spades. Take that, Crue fans!

Was excited to get R&W on cd. Hadn't had the whole album since the days of vinyl. Put the cd in and realized most of the songs are from the 'balls to the wall' album. Track listing on the liner notes and printed on the cd are right but the songs on the cd itself are not right.

Thought Breaker was better,

I thought this album started getting too much of the ac/dc aspects of rock and roll and not enough of the double guitar Maiden/Priest stuff.

Cuts are all good! These guys are the MotorHead of Heavy Metal. MotorHead is the In your face, I don't care, of hard rock. Accept is the In your face, I don't care of Heavy Metal.
The song Restless And Wild was first offered to AC/DC, they declined. Accept (Accepted) it. This is a very good album if you like 'Balls To The Wall', and older Accept.

The general consensus of the American public is that Accept were a kind of novelty act-"Those guys that did 'Balls to the Wall'". Hardcore metal fans know better however, and realize this was one of the most influential bands of the genre. Though they were overshadowed in popularity by fellow countrymen, The Scorpions, they were probably the most important German metal act in history until Helloween came along. Restless and Wild is often brought up as THE Accept album, and in some cases, one of THE most important metal albums of the 80s. The phrase "ahead of it's time" is used an awful lot anymore, and used alot to describe this album. I'd have to say it's true in this case. After all, ya gotta remember this was 1982. Now, I'm probably one of the only people you'll hear say this, but I feel there are a few filler songs on this album. After two such powerful opening songs, everything after doesn't quite seem to measure up. I'm not saying there's a bad song on this album, lets not get me wrong. You do have to admit that the bar is set rather high right off the bat though. Either way, this is an essential album for a classic metal fan, no doubt about it. And it's certainly a way to shut up those who feel Accept were a one trick pony.

Don't Believe the Hype,
By freedom78 (Indiana) - See all my reviews

Genre classic or not, it just didn't do as much for me as I had hoped, and it sounds a bit dated. Not bad...but not nearly so strong as the hype might lead you to believe.
