Editorial Reviews

Review

"A fearless grand adventure of escalating escapades and escapes so hair-raising that Adams' deranged imagination is barely able to contain them all. I knew we were in trouble as soon as the ostrich appeared. It's a fearless, hurtling hell of a debut."
- Christopher Fowler

"This is the kind of book that 'Best of Lists' were made for. Nine and Three Quarters out of Ten"
- Graeme's Fantasy Book Review

"Strange and wonderful The World House will take you on a long bizarre journey within four walls, carrying you into dark imaginative regions from room to room, basement to attic, and leave you with the feeling that a journey to the centre of the earth, or to the moon, would be no less exhilarating."
- Garry Kilworth

"Looking back at that first book, I could see how carefully Adams had planted the seeds for what would happen in Restoration, and I applaud him for an effort well done. ... I enjoyed how this novel was intricately woven into the fabric of the first book, giving greater depth to each and creating a richer whole. Restoration is a complicated and tightly knit story of destiny and perseverance, and it’s definitely one of the more unusual tales you’ll pick up."

About the Author

Guy Adams trained and worked as an actor for twelve years before becoming a full-time writer. If nothing else this proves he has no concept of a sensible career. He mugged someone on Emmerdale, performed a dance routine as Hitler and spent eighteen months touring his own comedy material around clubs and theatres.

He is the author of the best-selling Rules of Modern Policing: 1973 Edition, a spoof police manual 'written by' DCI Gene Hunt of Life On Mars. Published by Transworld, it has sold over 120, 000 copies.

Guy has also written a two-volume series companion to the show published by Simon & Schuster;a Torchwood novel, The House That Jack Built (BBC Books); and The Case Notes of Sherlock Holmes, a fictional facsimile of a scrapbook kept by Doctor John Watson. Carlton Books published it in 2009 in association with the Estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the writer's birth. The author lives in Alicante, Spain.

I pre-ordered this after reading "The World House" and when it arrived I devoured it.
Guy Adams has done what few manage, a sequel as good as the first.
If you haven't read "The World House", you'll need to before entering "Restoration" or you'll be all at sea.
Not just because of the characters and their back stories but the way in which the House itself performs, and trust me it does.
Without giving away too much, there's a box, when held by someone in a moment of physical danger, transports them (minus the box) to The World House.
The House is essentially a prison for a powerful and evil entity (that humanity hasn't a hope of dealing with), it is a construct of imagination (imagine "Jumanji" on steroids) and now in a state of collapse.
The survivors of the first book must capture the prisoner and ensure the restoration of the house - otherwise our world and others parallel to it, will be destroyed.
It is possible to envisage a third book in this storyline, I do hope so.
Adams is a writer with imagination to spare.
I can give no better praise than to put him in the same sphere as Tim Powers or Clive Barker.
If you liked "Weaveworld" by Clive Barker, then you'll really enjoy these stories by Guy Adams.

continuing with the characters in World House plus some new ones. Couldn't put it down, as good as Stephen King. Liked the ending, maybe leaves it open for a possible 3rd book in the series? Hope so!!

The World House was one of the most unique books I have read in a long time. I have become pretty jaded about my scifi/fantasy reading over the years, but the World House books really woke me up. A cross between Saw, Jumanji and Dr. Who. The writer sets up a series of events that can't happen then shows you how they can. If you like to be fooled occasionally and just be entertained, I highly recommend these books. Not for the weak of heart or imagination.

I really enjoyed these two books. If you like survival stories or time travel or British humor similar to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, you'll be captivated by these novels too. This book was a neat continuation, as it had me on the edge of my seat pleading with the characters to stop the evil creep. And the time travel plotline was brilliant. I cant give away the ending but lets just say I hope beyond all reason that Guy Adams makes a third story! Although if he chose to make a hundred more I'd make sure to eat them all up. Thanks for the great story Mr. Adams. I hope many more will love these books too!
