Editorial Reviews

Review

"Bohanan doesn't leave much to the imagination, presenting all of the challenges, expenses (a key point), drawbacks, and finally, benefits that a restorer will encounter." (Larry Jewett Mustang Enthusiast 2010-06-01)

"All in all, How to Restore Your Mustang is a solid and meaty tech book, and a useful purchase if you've been eyeing that dilapidated Mustang in your garage with renewed enthusiasm." (Musclecar Enthusiast 2010-10-01)

"If you're contemplating picking up the original pony car, this inexpensive book should be on your short list." (Hemmings Classic Car 2011-10-01)

"The text is clear, as are the pictures. The scope is wide, but it covers most bases. There are a number of similar books on the market, but this one is worthy of your consideration." (Classic Amerian 2013-08-16)

From the Back Cover

Any enthusiast owner can professionally restore a Mustang, turning a diamond in the rough into a brilliant automotive jewel. To accomplish that goal, you need this thorough and detailed guide that covers each major stage of the restoration project from beginning to end. While other publications feature original parts information for verifying authenticity, this is a bona fide how-to book that covers the restoration process for every major component group, including engines, drivelines, body, interior, trim, electrical systems, brakes, steering, and suspension. Clear, detailed captions accompany insightful color photographs, so any at-home restorer can confidently restore a car and save a bundle of money. But this book goes beyond your common resto guide, it delivers detailed and comprehensive coverage for real-world upgrades, so your car is more responsive, faster, and safer while maintaining its collector value. This innovative book explains how to find the right model, assess its condition, and select the best car within your budget. Then, author Frank Bohanan shows you how to plan, properly prepare for the project, and select the right tools. Finally, the latest techniques and best restoration products and processes for each system are revealed. If you want a book that shows you how to restore your Mustang rather than just discussing it, this is it.

Well I went nuts and bought tons of Mustang books for my 66, most are pretty poor really. This one is great, still wastes some chapters on which Mustang to buy and body work (this has been thrashed to death in many many books) but there rest is good. Sadly there is no one complete Mustang book, but with this book and Tom Corcoran and Earl Davis's "Mustang 1964 1/2 -1973 Restoration Guide" - good for parts details and exploded views, no instructions. Anyway with these two you have 90% of your needs covered. You'd think by now there would be a comprehensive repair and restoration guide, but there isn't but this is the closest yet and the pictures are good.

I've bought other Mustang restoration books, but most are black and white, contain factory drawings and exploded view drawings. These tend to offer little in the way of real instruction. This book is definitely different; it offers procedures for doing the actual work and the step by step photos show you what's actually being done. And it covers all the parts of the car--engine, transmission, steering, suspension, chassis, brakes, bodywork, paint, interior. While it doesn't replace the factory service manual, I haven't seen any other Mustang restoration book that offers as much information.

What can I say other than WOW! There is so much information in this book its ridiculous. Not only are the photo's amazing, the book is written in a way that us normal humans can understand it. I was very pleased with my purchase and so will you.

The absolute truth. I don't know Jack about cars! There I said it. I know the basics. That's the radiatior, this is the motor, i can turn a wrench and can read. That is all i needed an i restored my dads old 67 stang'. Got a motor from Coast High Performance, and this book told me how to do EVERYTHING! Trust me when i say I am just your average joe and know very little about cars. Follow the book and your golden.

Well done! Thank you and as a mustang enthusiast, i sure hope there is another book of this caliber from this author. I honestly feel with this book I can rebuild any mustang. And so will you. Cheers!

The book had very good pictures and I like that they kept to one year model, instead on bouncing around. However, if you take out the engine, transmission and rear end how to's which most people would get professionally done, the book is really pretty light. There is no detail in disassembly and re-assembly. It's basically remove everything restore it or replace it and put it back together. I was looking for lots more detail for glass channels, window operation, dash assembly, wiring, safety modifications etc..

Was given advice to pick up the book when it had been printed. Was not dissapointed. The steps for each of the procedures are articulated well and most processes are shown in detail with good photos to assist the reader. The writer offers sound advice when considering changes and improvements while maintaining the originality of the cars. Well worth the money spent.

I should have listened to the other reviews regarding the amount of information in this guide. This is more of a how-to get motivated to choose your car. The book serves as a general manual for restoring any car and not a mustang. It lacked the diagrams and cataloguing that is needed to restore a mustang.

This is a good book to get you started if you want to restore a mustang. I plan on using this book alot to give me pointers during the restoration of my 66 mustang. I like that it has the full color pictures and explains the process of tear down and rebuilding.

Overall it is very thorough and have a lot of detail. My only complaint is the vehicle they used for their build was in too good a condition to start with. I would have like to see more detail on various body repairs and panel replacement.
