I too was greatly disappointed with this book.. it deserves ZERO stars. I had high hopes that it would be filled with great advice, but what the author tells you to do to old tools is not restoration. He suggests all sorts of techniques that no tool lover could justify. A few minutes on the Internet searching for old tools sites will give you tons of advice that's better than this stuff. I sent this book back to Amazon an hour after I received it.

I don't think this book could have less information in it on the subject it is supposed to cover without it being about something else entirely.

There is not many books on tools restoration. This one is an excellent starter for anyone who wants to restore old woodworking tools. Thanks much!

As the author states in the First edition introduction, "There are some who believe that a tool should NEVER be changed in any way, as it will destroy the integrity. There are others who feel that any change is OK as long as it makes the tool useable. I like to think that somewhere in the middle, where all the variables are taken into account, is the best place to be." So, if you fall closer to the NEVER change category, you will hate this book. If you fall into the middle, like the author, and this is a new hobby for you, then this is a handy little book. Can you find information on restoring antique tools on the internet? Sure you can. You can find just about anything on the internet if you spend enough time! My time is worth more than that, so I found the book to be a good value.

I found this book very helpful in restoring old planes. The author keeps it pretty simple.

This was a book I was waiting for, when it arrived it was dissapointing, I was truly let down.
