Book Description

This work outlines a brief history of conservatism from 800 BC to present day, and offers insight and suggestions for a needed cultural restoration. I believe this book is timely, and holds the seeds that could turn our floundering country back to cultural health. The main thesis of the work is that reconciliation and philosophical interaction between conservatism’s five historical forms can restore an intellectually vigorous, culturally fruitful, morally coherent and politically potent society.
Conservatism holds a vital role in history, providing ideals that formed a crucial foundation for Western civilization’s rise to become the world premiere in literature, philosophy, art, music, architecture, economics, commerce, exploration, science, technology, war and politics - its principles and values have consistently produced beneficial effects upon culture. In contrast, Liberalism has often been destructive to Western culture, propagating false views about the nature of man, society, government and the cosmos – and has never produced more than a mixed blessing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Liberty Minded Americans! February 15, 2012
In the process of editing Fred's work, my own intelligence was challenged, and I recognized how brilliant my late friend was. This work is not only timely and deep; it holds the seeds that could turn our floundering country back to cultural health as spoken in Scripture: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV)
I have confidence that Americans can be used by God to rebuild the Republic - we have a great treasure house of past wisdom, splendid history, truth principles and values, and sterling examples with which to build. We can win the battle against deeply entrenched postmodernism if we humble ourselves enough to stand with confidence on the giant shoulders of those who have gone before us. May we receive God's special anointing of deep joy in the uniting of like-minded patriots, as we roll up our sleeves to begin the hard work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cultural and intellectual history at its best January 5, 2013
Fred Hutchinson was a friend, a mentor and one who listened as well as expressing his unique viewpoint of WESTERN CIVILIZATION with its apparent antagonism between the secular and Christian paradigms.

Fred normally was a proponent of a literal, historical interpretor of Christianity, however as we entered into dialogue he could see himself rising above the literal stance and move into a favorable reading of the Alexandrian school of Christianity and some Medieval readings of Christian mysticism.

Briefly, this involves an allegorical and somewhat mystical approach to the teachings inherent in Christianity. Man can be transfigured in this present life as Scripture so vividly reads. Meditation and Contemplation became valid considerations as means to enhance the Christian way of living. There also is a burst of understanding that comes with understanding the "I AM." Many of Jesus' teachings were allegorical. Fred knew what it meant to transcend the traditional reading of Christianity yet included it within his personal experiences.

Overall, I immensely enjoy reading history from an intellectual viewpoint that translates the political, economic, cultural and religious events and their consequences within a timely Christian framework. The world of ideas is the foundation of such practical outcomes whether good or detrimental. Fred knew how to capture and present the larger and smaller pictures of civilization and Christianity.

It was free. I had no idea it was a religious view of history. For some reason, spaces between words seem to disappear. It may be fun reading for religious conservatives. Apparently, it was published by friends of the author.
