Various authors - Mark Dever, Daniel Akin, and Stan Norman to name a few - provide overlapping chapters on themes like "Regaining Meaningful Church Membership," "Fencing the Table," and "The Reestablishment of Proper Church Discipline."

This book mentions by name current debates within the SBC on these issues. There is no doubt that this book will benefit the daily conversation among denominational leaders and pastors regarding the health of Baptist churches. I found the authors to be soaked in Scripture, aware of church history, and given to pastoral practicality.

I work very closely with some bible-thumping Baptists. This book helped me to understand my co-workers view points. For those of us who are Catholics and Episcopalians, this book will shed some light on this often misunderstood faith.

Reading with a desire to implement Restoring Integrity in Baptist Churches is dangerous in this "truth is whatever I say it is" day. The authors have a take no prisoners, follow the truth wherever it leads mentality. You may not agree with their conclusions, but you must ask yourself why. Each contributor admirably defends his position from both Scripture and church history. This is a book every pastor needs in his library, whether Southern Baptist or not. I HIGHLY commend it.

Some say integrity is something that has taken quite the beating in modern society. "Restoring Integrity in Baptist Churches" is a collection of wise, Christian minds on the current decline of church attendance nation wide and the fall of moral values in America. Speaking on membership, Baptist principles, Discipline, and how to spread the values to a congregation, "Restoring Integrity in Baptist Churches" is a must for heads of Baptist churches.

As a collection of essays from various authors, not all chapters are equally strong. However, the overall import of the book is significant and needed in our churches today. It is obviously denominationally specific, but many different traditions will benefit from the discussions, if for no other reason than to rethink your own reasons for doing what you do each week during worship.
