4.0 out of 5 stars I WANT MORE!
This book was easy to read and helped me understand more about the side effects of medication and the impact depression can have on relationships. I liked reading the questions/answers that were provided but I wish there were more tips on how to maintain my relationship through my depression. I would recommend this to someone who wants more of an overview/clinical...

I am a clinical psychologist and have been in practice for over 20 years. This book is primarily about the side effects of medications with very little practical advice on maintaining relationships during depression. 1.0 out of 5 stars You've Got To Be Kidding, February 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Restoring Intimacy: The Patient's Guide to Maintaining Relationships During Depression (Paperback)
This is the most misleading title ever. The book promises to help you resore your intimacy. For someone suffering from depression and looking for a way to fix their diminished sexual desire, this book is a cruel joke with nothing more to say than "Talk to your doctor about it".

You can save yourself a lot of time and money if you already know the basics about depression and its effects on your life. This book offers absolutely no solutions, just platitudes!

I would have given it zero stars, but Amazon didn't give me that option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real-life questions answered in language I can understand., October 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Restoring Intimacy: The Patient's Guide to Maintaining Relationships During Depression (Paperback)
This is the first book I've seen that addresses concerns of the partner of a person with depression. It's easy to read, and I love that the quetions were submitted by people living with depression. The medication chart at the back of the book is terrific; it answered all those questions I never got answered before. I wish everyone living with depression would read this book because it shows that no one is to blame, and it has a strong message of hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reassuring and helpful, February 25, 2000
This review is from: Restoring Intimacy: The Patient's Guide to Maintaining Relationships During Depression (Paperback)
This book is a godsend. I am struggling with a husband who is depressed and this is the first book I found that addressed the problems of intimacy when a spouse is depressed. The panel of experts gave thoughtful and helpful answers. Most of all, it was hopeful and reassuring to know that I am not alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intimacy should not be sacrificed because of depression, October 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Restoring Intimacy: The Patient's Guide to Maintaining Relationships During Depression (Paperback)
In my constant search for information and advice on how to help relationships survive depression, I found Restoring Intimacy: The Patient's Guide To Maintaining Relationships During Depression. Restoring Intimacy is a book of questions submitted by people living with depression, as well as from their partners and family members. The questions range from how to recognize depression in a loved one, how to cope with side effects of antidepressant medications that may affect sexual function, and how to talk with a doctor about depression-related intimacy problems. Seven mental health experts, answer the questions, clearly, concisely and in a language that the average person can understand. This is the first book I have found that addresses real-life concerns about the impact of depression and its treatments on intimate relationships. It is also one of the only books that includes the partner and/or family member in the process of recovery. Restoring Intimacy reminded me that intimate relationships are not dispensable and they shouldn't be sacrificed because of depression or its treatments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Restoring Intimacy restores hope too, January 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Restoring Intimacy: The Patient's Guide to Maintaining Relationships During Depression (Paperback)
I found this book to be a tremendous help in understanding the way that depression hits both the one with it and the partner. It offers insights and advice about how to help someone you love and it sheds light on issues that nobody talks about - how depression and its treatment can interrupt intimacy and that we all deserve to have full relationships, even if we are livign with depression. It was easy to read and encouraging.

This book is padded to fill out 85 pages. There is no message here besides, "See a doctor - try pills." It suffers from the same lack of integrity as most books written by committee. The cover is beautiful. The title is enticing. It's a marketer's ploy for praying on depressed people and their spouses, reaching out in hope. It's the first book I'm actually sending back to Amazon.com.

This review is from: Restoring Intimacy: The Patient's Guide to Maintaining Relationships During Depression (Paperback)
I was very disappointed with this book. It is a Q&A format, all of which is information about depression that I already know. Many of the questions seem to be repeated, only in different terms. And at the end of almost every answer is tells you to talk to your doctor. This is no "Guide To Maintaining Relationships During Depression."
