5.0 out of 5 stars Unusual Clarity on Raising Teens, February 10, 2006

This review is from: Restoring the Teenage Soul : Nurturing Sound Hearts and Minds in a Confused Culture (Paperback)
Knowing that a parent's chance to raise an emotionally strong child with character and the ability to behave and make sound judgments is short, I have purchased and read many books on the subject recently. A number of these books have provided some insights into why teens behave the way they do, and others have provided some useful tips on how to guide children through adolescence and the teenage years. This book, despite being many fewer pages in length than others, has more to offer a parent than all the others I have read combined. "Restoring the Teenage Soul" exlpains so clearly why teens act the way they do and provides a comprehensive prescription for guiding the teen through difficult years. Especially with the less than helpful influences of today's popular culture and the influences of kids whose parents seem to have lost their focus on what matters to kids, this book is a gem. After reading it, you will know what you need to do to raise a healthy teen. If you are dedicated to raising your teen properly, but need some clarity on how to do it, start here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Need to read it., November 11, 2002

I finished the book slowly, enjoy it, and use it as a reference to teach a parenting class in my church. It's a good book for those parents with teenagers and those who work with teens.

This book will help parents understand the needs of their teenagers. As a professional parent educator, this is one of my top recommendations.

I found the book concise, yet full of examples. The content is very well written by someone who obviously cares deeply about the subject.

Dr. Meeker is tops. I've read many of her very valuable books but this one is special. Once again, unafraid to relate her real-life experiences, she's a true expert at cutting straight to the core of things. In everything she does, she makes it clear how very much she cares about kids, especially those who are struggling with our 'confused culture'. (Parents, guardians, concerned adults or family friends: If you want to help but are not sure what, when, how, why, you will find her guidance, uniquely valuable.)
