Wimp Bizkit!!! HA!!!, June 13, 2004
In my 8th grade year(2000), it somehow became the epitome of `cool' to own any album by LIMP BIZKIT. Why? Because they were loud, heavy, cussed a whole bunch, and were utterly mesmerized with the idea of sex. Since all of these things were completely contrary to all the morals our parents had taught us keep, we, the rebellious pre-teens we were, obviously embraced it. The same could be said for KORN, METALLICA, NINE INCH NAILS, and all those other bands that love Satan alot. NOW, of course, we realize how silly and retarded LIMP BIZKIT truly is.Unlike my hard-core peers, I'd never quite connected with all of these `unconventional', rebellious ideals, so I've never really experienced the stupidity of this band until my friend burned me a copy of "Results May Vary". I'd heard the single `Eat You Alive', and I thought it was pretty cool. I mean, that riff was SICK, and the vocals from Fred Durst were pretty strong and interesting. I thought. So I listened. And to tell the truth, I like most of the music on the record. Some of it is sorta heavy(`Eat You Alive', `Gimme the Mic', `Head for the Barricades'), but most of the album is sort of not. The second single, the WHO cover `Behind Blue Eyes', is a very soft and, seriously, a very touching song when played by these guys. Please forgive my ineptitude, but I really just could never connect with it the same way when played by it's original creators. The closing track `Drown' is my favorite on the album. There's absolutely NO heavy parts at all. It starts soft and stays that way through the whole track. I love Fred's voice, alright? It's great on this song, on `Behind Blue Eyes', on `Eat You Alive', on `Underneath the Gun', on `Build a Bridge', on lots and lots of songs. If I were grading the album solely on it's musical/vocal merits, it would get a solid four stars, no joke. BUT... the lyrics that are causing a travesty that I simply can't ignore. Almost every song, besides a select few, contain some of the most mundane lyrics ever put to record. I assume relentless `cool' references to sex, extreme usage of `radical' cusswords, `intense' whining of depression over your consistent failure in life and how miserable your existence has been are all a bunch of things that will you sell millions of records. And I don't know about your other albums, but this one is definitely proving that. Retards. MY TOP PICKS: - `Underneath the Gun' (LIMP, you'd be a fool to NOT release this as a single) - `Drown' - `Behind Blue Eyes' - `Build a Bridge' - `Down Another Day' - `Let me Down' These guys are down alot. 2.5 stars, blown up to three. If you're a rebellious eight grader, this is all you need. As well as some MUDVAYNE, or whatever else is mindless metal.
