1.0 out of 5 stars A waste of paper...., May 21, 2002

This book is a waste of the paper it was written on. Don't get me wrong, it has some good advice about writing a resume, but you can get that ANYWHERE. I was looking for some insight into writing a resume for a "Scientific and Technical Career" as the title would suggest. I just finished reading it, and besides the title, you wouldn't be able to tell it apart from any other book written about resumes. The only place it made an attempt was to include some "Scientific / Technical" resumes in the Sample Resumes section.

1.0 out of 5 stars try another book instead, April 1, 2003

I'm sorry to say I do not recommend this book. I expected examples with a heavy science and technical focus, but there are few. The examples show either little experience, or a focus on management. I was disappointed with how many of the example layouts break some basic rules of print layout. You'll find better examples by doing an Internet search.

I was especially interested in cover letters. There's about 1 1/2 pages of info - consisting of an explanation of the format of a letter (return address, date, salutation, etc.) and how to be sure not to smudge it, and to use the correct size envelope. The few examples are general, or apply to people with little experience.
