Editorial Reviews

"Resurrecting Anthony is a true story that will carve itself into your heart forever. Amidst the worst of crisis, Tony and Linda never lose sight of the fact that life is a gift - an important lesson for others facing challenge and maybe even more importantly, for those of us taking our day-today lives for granted. I loved this book." --Keith Ferrazzi, #1 NYT best-selling author of Who's Got Your Back and Never Eat Alone

"Powerful lessons in letting go, being present, failure, belief, goals, perseverance, and making the toughest of decisions - expressed in a way that can only be shared by parents who have eighteen months to save their child. It's a story I shared last night around the dinner table with our own children. Thank you Linda and Tony for this honest account of your family's journey with your son." --Verne Harnish, Author of Mastering the Rockefeller Habits

"I want to thank you for the gift of your words in Resurrecting Anthony. You touched me on every level. Yours is a love story as deep and rough and terrible and joyous as there is. Where did your strength come from? How did you not stop, not give up, not quit? Powered by love - that I know." --Tom Redmond, Redmond Group, Inc.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for personally inviting me into your family and your world, and into the "depth of your souls." I am honored and feel privileged to have read this heartbreaking, yet relentlessly inspiring story. Linda and Tony, you have done a brilliant job in weaving your innermost and vulnerable parts of your world for me to experience, and for all readers to experience the roller coaster ride of your life... the good and the unbearable." --Nancy Lorenzano, Ph.D., The Lorenzano Group

"Resurrecting Anthony is inspirational. It made me choke back tears. It made me renew my commitment to be a more dedicated professional educator. It made me renew my focus to be a better husband, a more patient father, and a more caring grandfather. Indeed, it left me with an overwhelming sense of humility. It made my worst days seem mundane and trivial." --Glenn Alexander, Superintendent of Clermont County Ohio Educational Service Center

"Resurrecting Anthony is an unforgettable story of turning tragedy into triumph. Tony and Linda Cole's unyielding determination in the face of adversity will resurrect your courage!" --Roger Crawford, Author How High Can You Bounce? and Think Again!

"Resurrecting Anthony touched my heart. Not because of the pain and emotion that he and his family have experienced, but because of the lessons he teaches all of us. Know what really matters; accept everyone; find joy at being in the present and remember that every day is a gift." --Walt Gerano, Independent Consultant

"Resurrecting Anthony is a source of power and inspiration for everyone. It's the story of the journey traveled by Tony and Linda as they changed directions and grew as individuals and as a couple. Every time I wave to Anthony as he is being wheeled by our house, I am inspired by his resilience and determination, and by the Cole family's courage to dream a new dream. I recommend this book to anyone dealing with a child with special needs or who has been faced with traumatic circumstances beyond their control. I know God will use this book to help bring families together, to help restore marriages and to help health care professionals like myself understand the obstacles that our patients and families often face." --Rhonda Fecher, RN, Children's Hospital Medical Center

About the Author

Linda Cole co-authored her first book, Resurrecting Anthony: A True Story of Courage & Destination, which tells the story of her twelve-year-old son's heart attack and brain injury. A look back over the decade since the event helps the reader see how her once-perfect family survived the devastating loss of a child and how a new family has come to be. Linda is the CFO of Anthony Cole Training Group, a successful company that builds sales cultures within organizations nationwide.
Tony Cole graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in education. A scholarship athlete, upon graduation Tony leveraged his experience to coach Iowa State University and University of Cincinnati athletic teams. He then spent more than fifteen years in sales and sales management positions in the exercise equipment and insurance industries. He is CEO and president of Anthony Cole Training Group, which serves companies nationwide, bringing new life to sales organizations.

More About the Author

Linda and Tony Cole live in Cincinnati, Ohio. They are parents of two children, Anthony, who is brain-injured and fully dependent, and Alexandra, who is a student at the University of Dayton. They are owners of Anthony Cole Training Group (ACTG), a consulting firm that helps companies and individuals build sales revenue. They also own Alexandra Publishing, which they formed to bring Resurrecting Anthony and their other titles to market.

Linda graduated from the University of Texas Austin from the well-known McCombs School of Business and is Chief Financial Officer and partner in ACTG. She is also CEO and president of Alexandra Publishing. She spends her free time running, and volunteering with the Freestore Foodbank.

Tony graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Education and is President and CEO of Anthony Cole Training Group. A former college strength and conditioning coach, he and Linda launched the company in 1991. The company was quickly successful. However, when their 12-year-old son experienced cardiac arrest and brain injury in September of 1998, they downshifted for several years to focus on rehabilitating Anthony and keeping their family together.

They continue to live, work and play together. (Per Linda- this is sometimes easier said than done!)

A profoundly personal book and look at the life of one child and the love of a parent and child.

This book was a page turner and I found that once I started I wanted to continue to find out what happened next. The book tugs at the heartstrings and motivates you to do more with your own children and to re-evaluate what is important within your life.

The book helps the reader to better conceptualize what the important moments are within life, especially with kids and lets everyone understand that every moment counts, as you never know when that next moment will cease, or how many moments that you have to share.

The book is a personal story as I mentioned, and it brings the reader along to get a better glimpse at the events that changes the lives of the Cole family. Readers will be drawn to this family, inspired and motivated by their actions and deeds (I know that I was).

This is the type of book that all should read!

Having delt with similar circumstances, I found this book to be excellent in efforts to confirm what I had been doing for my loved one. Although my "special" person is a wife of 40+ years, the emotions and solutions were very much the same. The lack of much medical help was evident and the care and helpfulness of those trying to make life as good as possible was something that I also felt. The book was well written and I would recommend it for anyone dealing with similar circumstances.

I'm totally awestruck after reading Resurrecting Anthony-A True Story of Courage & Destination by Linda Cole & Tony Cole. As parents we can't imagine what it's like to have our child suffer or taken from us. We hear of it happening to others and it catches our breath away making us want to run home and be with our children to guard over them so nothing like that happens to them. Still it can happen to anyone and like anyone Linda and Tony Cole had tragedy strike their 12 year old son Anthony who had a heart attack on the playground at school and due to lack of oxygen suffered major brain damage during the 13 attempts to restart his heart.

The struggle to try to bring back some semblance of who their son was before this happened; to connect with him as a loving parent again knowing he may not even realize what has occurred or is happening around him, is something no parent should have to face. Yet these things happen all the time.

Reading Resurrecting Anthony, you will struggle along with Tony and Linda as they learn everything pertaining to their son's condition, medical treatments, how to care for him, how to stay connected as a family and keep an income coming into the home, plus trying not to ignore their other children's needs. Caring for a child with any disability takes great courage, strength, endurance, and determination. Linda and Tony Cole are such parents and God couldn't have chosen better parents for Tony.

Anthony's incremental progress leads to a series of personal revelations for his father. Tony's test is to understand his new Anthony, whose greatest gift now is the ability to live totally and completely in the moment, the riveting heart of this tender tale.

Having lived through a traumatic injury (burn) with our son - who is the exact same age (injured at 15) as Anthony - It was nice to read a book from someone else to see that much of what we went through is NORMAL. The roller coaster ride of emotions, the sheer overwhelming weight of the emotional and physical burden on the body, reliving every second of the child's life and THAT moment to see if you can catch - the second, the one thing - that you missed while living it. Add stress of dealing with the 'forgotten' sibling and family members who seem to disappear from your life. Then re-arranging your life and plans as you settle into a new medical routine once you come home for good. The aggravation of dealing with insurance (ours was great, sort of) and improperly filed forms, filling out repetitious forms again and again and all the while realizing that this healthy, active child was gone and you were going to be caring for him for the rest of his life or yours. Which brings up another emotional and real issue to address - who will care for him once you are gone. It is indeed a whole different place of being. While the Coles emphasize the lesson of loving your children in the now as a single second can change it forever, the lesson we've held onto is that voiced by SFC (USA RET) Greg Stube, injured in Afghanistan - 'It's not that we learned what we valued most, it's that we learned what we value least.' And those around us, still have a hard time understanding that we can't abide by the vapid everydayness that they still seek to drag us back into - so that we can get over this and get back to normal. Perhaps if they had ever come and helped, they would realize that we have a new Normal - and traveling with our son - is no vacation either.Read more ›

This book really grabbed me. Once you start reading it, it is impossible to stop. It is heartfelt, funny, inspirational, tragic and triumphant. Resurrecting Anthony is a book every parent should read. It is a book every business person too busy making money should read. It offers many powerful and important lessons based on the true story of Linda, Tony and Anthony Cole.

Ladies, buy it for your workaholic husbands, and buy a copy for yourself too, so that every parent and child in the world knows how precious our moments really are. Every day matters. Don't take any of it for granted.

Let me finish by saying that the book is really a story, a true story. The lessons don't come from sermonizing. There is none of that. Rather, it is all about the events and decisions that shaped the lives of the Coles and made them who they are today--courageous souls brave enough to tell their important story. Do yourself a favor--buy it today.
