2.0 out of 5 stars Good for baby's first sci-fi
Nothing intrinsically wrong with it. Very simple story and writing style. Some of the wording is odd. Could use some editing. It's for VERY young adults though, like pre adolescent. Had I realized this I wouldn't have purchased it or taken the time to read it. It would be great for a kid just expressing interest in science fiction though. No real violence, bloodless...

5.0 out of 5 stars An original, deftly written, and thoroughly entertaining novel of action and adventure, November 12, 2005
This review is from: Resurrection of Liberty (Hardcover)
Freedom has been leached from the galaxy and replaced with slavery, oppression, and destruction. All the known worlds have been overrun by the Gaarich. This is the setting for the riveting science fiction adventure novel Resurrection Of Liberty by Michael L. Wentz. Daniel Foster is a young man who awakens his grandfather's old ship as the Gaarich turn their sights toward Earth. Daniel has no intention of being a hero. But fate has other plans for him as the destiny of Earth and the liberation of a galaxy hangs in the balance of his decisions. Resurrection Of Liberty is an original, deftly written, and thoroughly entertaining novel of action and adventure which can be enthusiastically recommended for science fiction fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, Quick Read, Great for Young Readers, or 72 Year Olds, September 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I started to put this book down several times, but, in the end, could not. I kept thinking that if I were 12 or even 22 I would really like this book, but at 72 I could not really identify with it.

The problem was that it was so well written, with just enough suspense hanging at the end of every chapter, that I kept sneaking back to find out "what happens next." That should tell you that even age prejudice, like mine, should not keep you from reading this page turner. The author clearly knows how to write and how to say just enough to keep you wanting to read more.

The dialogue is about what you would expect when it is mostly between 16 year olds. But it is well written and you do get enough from it and the little hints thrown in throughout the book to feel you understand the personalities of the main characters, and can empathize with them. The premise and the plot are more fantasy than science fiction, and the good guys go to the very end without so much as a scratch, and then only some superficial, if bloody, side effects from conquering the scourge of the galaxy.

The science is more assumed than explained, and really does not drive the story. Thus it is more like Star Wars than like a modern uber-pseudo-scientific si-fi novel. That can be disappointing or refreshing. I choose the latter. Sometimes I like the story to drive the book rather than the technology. Now it gives away no secrets to say that the good guys win and that some of the scenes are thus pure fantasy and highly improbable, to say the least.

That, notwithstanding, if you like your sci-fi light, if you would like now and then to read something that is just fun and would like to not spend too much time being a critic, I think you will like this book. I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars When's the movie coming out?, February 4, 2007
This review is from: Resurrection of Liberty (Hardcover)
You know when you read a book and it does a great job of painting pictures in your head of what is going on? This is one of those books where you can immerse yourself in the story, and see, feel, hear, all the things going on.

Great read, interesting story, ended up reading it fast because I picked it up every free moment I had.

Good story for all ages in my humble opinion.

I give it a 5 star, cause I couldn't put my Kindle down. Every page is bringing new intrigues and it just keep going.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Read, September 25, 2011
Very fun book. Certainly a little bit formulaic at times but it did not detract from the story. Well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable light read, September 19, 2011
this book was just what I was looking for during my vacation with a good story and likeable characters. I would have liked to see more detail on the ships and how the alien civilization is different from earths civilization. The book also felt too short and I strongly recommend that the author goes for a series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter in Outer Space, September 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book seems to be written for the teen reader, but this adult enjoyed it anyway. Sci-fi is not my usual genre, but this is so well written that it reminded me of Harry Potter. The central characters are three 16-year olds who find themselves in a car that takes them to the dark side of the moon. It's a fun read and if you like video games, sci-fi or just stories about smart kids, you may enjoy this one.

Great book with a lot of action. The plot and charactors were well developed and easy to follow. This is a great read for the space sci-fi fan both YA and adult.

I highly recommend this book as a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wanting more, August 25, 2011
This review is from: Resurrection of Liberty (Hardcover)
I hope there will be more to come. Could be a great trilogy in the making. When I reached the end and found out there weren't any more books to follow, I was disappointed.
