Book Description

"Maddie knew she was dying. Her life started to flash before her. She had visions of running down the soccer field, scoring a goal, eating her mother’s yummy, homemade, sticky cinnamon rolls, standing in her foyer listening to the police tell her father that her mother had been killed in a car accident. Each vision was disturbingly clear—as if it was happening again."

Rayn Yarrister, the first-born son and Leader of The Guardians, has been imprisoned on Vesturon for breaking their most sacred of covenants. He is suddenly jolted by Maddie's telepathic pleas for help, as her life hangs in the balance. Can he alert The Guardians in time to save his soulmate? Or will he face his trial alone and broken without his one true love?

In Resurrection (Book 2), The Guardians of Vesturon are facing their biggest challenges as Earth is threatened by an invading species from a distant planet intent on destroying it for its resources. The Guardians, as protectors of the universe, have been assembled to defend not only Earth, but other vulnerable worlds as well. The Yarrister family is threatened by an unknown entity intent on discrediting them. Will they uncover this plot in time to save themselves from ruin? Will The Guardians succeed in stopping the Xanthians, or will Earth be invaded and ravaged by this marauding species?

For two star-crossed lovers, two soul mates Madeline "Maddie" Pearce and Rayn Yarrister life is looking pretty bleak. Rayn is imprisoned for breaking a scarred covenant of Vesturon and since he happens to be the first born son to the Vesturon's leader, things really couldn't look grimmer. That is until the remaining Yarrister children, with the help of Maddie, decide the time has come to fight for love, a new future and maybe a few changes to the old ways. Unbeknownst to them all, this is only the beginning and destiny has so much more in store.

After finishing Survival, written by A.M.Hargrove, even with all of its issues, bumps and blips along the way; I found myself invested, invested with Maddie Pearce and Rayn Yarrister, invested with as much of the Yarrister family that had been introduced thus far. I had fallen in love with Maddie's quirks and couldn't for the life of me figure out how she and Rayn would get past it all. But that's just it, I wanted to know. So issues, blips, or bumps along the way or not, I picked up Resurrection and jumped right in.

I jumped right in and started reading and I found myself pleasantly surprised.

The reoccurring flashbacks that were and an issue in Survival? Gone. The Point-of-View jumping from character to character? That's not entirely gone but it is handled in a much gentler manner. I can't tell you how freeing it was to see, or not see for that matter, that these two major issues were gone like a bad dream. Without these two blips, speed bumps in the road if you will, it allows Resurrection to have the space it needs to open up - both in character depth and description of location and plot.

I won't give away any spoilers, that's not my style, but I will tell you this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! A MUST READ! February 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Hard for me to believe, but I read this book even faster than I did the first! The author met & exceeded all of my expectations for the sequel! It was amazing to watch the progression of Maddie from the girl she was in the first book to the amazing, strong woman she became in the second! I highly recommend this series! Can't wait for book #3!

3.0 out of 5 stars It Was Ok November 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book wasn't as good as book one at all I was slightly disappointed with this book. I was expecting so much more and the way Rayn acted to finding out the details of Maddie becoming a guardian a turn off. He was fine with her becoming a guardian after he got over his anger. He knew what HE went through so for him to get over it but then hear details and become so mad that he doesn't want to be in her presence was stupid to me. You can't write him being ok with her becoming a guardian then have him become extremely angry over her becoming one. Like I stated for him to become ok with it the first time he had to replay EVERYTHING that he endured and replace him with Maddie. So for him to finally be ok with it then hear details about I stated before was just disappointing I won't be reading book three not interested in it.

Enjoyed this series very much. I am just now recovering from all the lack of sleep. Both books were difficult to put down.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I picked up this book. It's like nothing I've read before with so many twists and turns. Romance? Sci-Fi?

I really love how realistic the characters are and wow - Maddie is a strong young lady! I'm so impressed! Wish I was that smart when I was her age!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read, but confuses genre. August 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I didn't put a review in for the first book, this review will encompass both. I am undecided if I will bother with the third book, the quality has been digressing rapidly (in my opinion).

The series begins as a bit of a thriller. As you are on the edge of your seat, an air of mystery is introduced in the form of mysterious Rayn, the guardian. From the moment they decide they are meant to be, however, things get slightly teeny bopper. The genre goes from this mysterious fantasy thriller, to a gushy, whiny very drawn out romance. Oh, Maddie's life is threatened a few times along the way and then when she becomes just too über powerful, Rayn's life is on the line(and now Maddie's gets to go rescue him, Lara Croft style).

The descriptions of Maddie's singing & dancing are comically out of place as is the overkill of Shanna's misuse of English phrases.

I think if I had picked up the book and expected one genre or the other, it would have felt like a more smooth ride. I found myself gripped at some points and totally bored at others. Like a roller coaster crossed with a merry go round. Or the little mermaid meets Lord of the Rings.

The characters just all fall into place a little too conveniently and the bad guys just crumble and fade away to make space for the pages & pages of romance (the romance side was fine, but totally out of balance for the rest of the story).

Last critique, I promise, is that a final edit would have been useful. Some paragraphs are rephrasing the exact same sentence 3 times! Same thing, just rewording. At times like that, I think the author must be a high school student herself (in which case I'm actually quite impressed).

I actually think I will pass on the 3rd book. Been there, done that. Like a rinse, wash repeat. It really should be categorized as a pre-teen romance, not paranormal romance.
