5.0 out of 5 stars So twisted. So demented. Get it!
"Resurrection" was a surprise film that was on cable. After watching it, I had to own it. The plot is great, the characters are superb. The maniac is so twisted with his religious beliefs.
I don't want to ruin the main concept but this film is full of gore and grissly, graphic scenes. Not for the squirmish. The graphic scenes are so realistic and what the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Movie
"Resurrection" is a movie about two detectives on the trail of a fanatical serial killer. It was recommended to me by a friend of mine who said it was similar to "Seven"...with just a bit more gore.

I thought the plot of the movie was good - or should I say, I found the serial killer's motive and the way he went about choosing his...

5.0 out of 5 stars So twisted. So demented. Get it!, May 3, 2004
This review is from: Resurrection [VHS] (VHS Tape)
"Resurrection" was a surprise film that was on cable. After watching it, I had to own it. The plot is great, the characters are superb. The maniac is so twisted with his religious beliefs.
I don't want to ruin the main concept but this film is full of gore and grissly, graphic scenes. Not for the squirmish. The graphic scenes are so realistic and what the maniac ends up doing is shocking! Lambert plays detective Prudhomme who is not partically accepted by his fellow officers, except his partner, Andrew. Several disturbing murders occur and slowly Prudhomme pieces the puzzle together and the end result is so disturbing.
If you liked "Seven" with Freeman and Pitt, you'll like this film just as much. Maybe more.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Movie Was a Pleasant Surprise, January 31, 2003
This review is from: Resurrection (DVD)
I hadn't heard of Resurrection until I stumbled across it at the local video store, stuck in between two other horror flicks. I wouldn't call this a horror film, though it does get a bit creepy and it is very graphic.
As this is a murder-mystery style thriller I don't want to get into the plot at all, because that's one spot where I feel this movie truly shines. The acting is great though, and the idea behind the movie, although rather disturbing, kept me glued to the screen.
The violent scenes are generally filmed in dark areas which makes the make-up effects look much more realistic. Some of the more extreme scenes will likely have you squirming in your seat.
The only thing I thought this film could have done better was hide who the killer was a bit more. I had it guessed correctly far before I was supposed to find out. But even with this one minor flaw, nothing should take away from your enjoyment of this picture. Edge of your seat entertainment.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT thriller - a must see!, January 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Resurrection [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie's plot was well thought out, suspenseful, and thrilling. This movie rates up there with Silence of the Lambs and Seven. Christopher Lambert is wonderful, much improved since the Highlander days.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Movie, August 1, 2004
This review is from: Resurrection (DVD)
"Resurrection" is a movie about two detectives on the trail of a fanatical serial killer. It was recommended to me by a friend of mine who said it was similar to "Seven"...with just a bit more gore.

I thought the plot of the movie was good - or should I say, I found the serial killer's motive and the way he went about choosing his victims to be morbidly fascinating. I was a bit surprised to find out who the killer was, though. Maybe I hadn't been paying close enough attention to what was going on. Or maybe it was because I had just spent the last two days watching episodes of "CSI" and then decided to take a break by watching this movie. Big mistake! My husband and I spent the majority of the film trying to figure out how these pitiful cops/detectives managed to make it out of the police academy. Okay, maybe it wasn't that bad - but there was a time or two we found ourselves yelling "Call in Grissom!" *laugh

"Resurrection" is a movie worth watching. I hate to compare it to "Seven" because I do not believe the movie is a rip-off or copycat of the blockbuster film. However, I will say that if you loved "Seven" - you'll like...I stress LIKE..."Resurrection".

2.0 out of 5 stars It could have been sooo good, October 14, 2001

"movie_freak" (Sydney, NSW Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Resurrection (DVD)
Depressive homicide detectivce (Christopher Lambert) is after a serial killer who removes young male's limbs to rebuild (literally) the body of christ. Mulcahy's and Lambert's attempt at a dark and distressing psychological thriller; in the tradition of SE7EN, is, of course intelligent and great to look at but consistantly changes its pitch from a thriller to a horror which results in garbled logic and cliched motives (and not to mention a hopeless finale). A waste of a perfectly good idea. Cult favourite David Cronenberg appears briefly as a priest.
The DVD, however, isn't much better. Choice between widescreen or fullscreen with a hazy and ordinary transfer, an overloud Dolby 5.1 track, a standard Dolby 2.0 in English and Spanish, the theatrical trailer and a TV spot, cast and crew biographies and an annoyingly dull and uninformative commentary by director Mulcahy. Don't let this clever title or artwork fool you, but if expectations are at a fat 0, you may fide this fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Messias is Coming, April 9, 2001

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Resurrection (DVD)
A couple of reviews made me hessitate buying this DVD. But the other reviews compared it with se7en, and, indeed, you clearly can spot the parallels, but it didn't bother me at all. It has a different enough story line of its own and I thought it was a very good story too and the hardest part of any thriller is to give it a good end. I like it when it has a sort of an open ending, so in this case I should give it a 7 for the ending. But the rest of the movie deserves a 9. If you have red the book Messias by Boris Starling (isbn 90.290.6703.9) you will see it has parallel story lines with this book also, but differs enough to buy the book and read it. The 30 quarters in the movie are silver spoons in the book and the serialkiller is found in the same direction as in Resurrection. But I can only say: Watch the movie and buy the book. Both will give you pleasure and chills.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Suspense, November 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Resurrection [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Resurrection is not for the faint-hearted. But if you love thrillers and you love suspense then this movie is for you. The movie has an extremely clever plot, with well-drawn characters. You'll figure out "WHO done it"...but that only adds to the suspense, and makes the climax all the better. This is a must see for true suspense lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unfairly overlooked!, September 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Resurrection (DVD)
This classic 'cat and mouse' thriller has a detective (Christopher Lambert) trying to catch a serial killer before he kills again. They have no motive, no clues, and a time limit. When they figure out the motive behind the severed body parts that have been taken from the bloody crime scenes they are appalled. Why? The killer is creating a 'Dr. Frankenstein' type reanimated body, but believes this body will be that of Christ.

Excellent and overlooked! This movie is in league with Seven and was overshadowed because the cast, while well chosen and proven in their own right, are not the upper crust of Hollywood. The movie keeps you guessing, puts you on the edge of your seat, has great effects, a complete storyline and respectable actors portraying their parts with passion. This movie impressed me so much that I immediately went to the satellite schedule, found it and plan on taping it for the video collection. Should you watch it? Hell ya!! If you liked Seven, you'll like this one as well...

5.0 out of 5 stars Up there with Seven, February 18, 2001
This review is from: Resurrection (DVD)
Yeah, you heard me,most people do not like this movie due to it's similarities with Seven, but if you can get past them you will get a great thriller, coming close to be better than Seven, the story?Mutilated bodies have been appearing and Lambert and his partner have to find this crazy guy. There is a subplot involving the death of Lambert's son that causes a tear exchange between him and his wife, even if it doesn't add much it's still good. The acting?Love him or hate him you have to admit Lambert gives a powerful acting, but the rest of the cast is average,it should have been released in the U.S.But it seems people like to see a lot of bad movies(the Bone Collector anyone?)
