Older than Dust, but Heavier than ever!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Resurrection (Audio CD)
I let a bandmate of mine (an old school Venom fan)check out this album, not sure what he would think, since this is a departure from the traditional Venom sound. He was completely and totally blown away. We both agreed that Resurrection is by far the best Venom album. The production is awesome, packed with thick potent guitar riffs and powerful vocal arrangements. It strays away from the stark rawness typical of earlier material, but make no mistake, this more sophisticated sound is every bit as brutal. Some things get better with age. Highly recommended.

Awesome.,

My expectations were pretty low before listening to this album. Everything else I'd heard from these guys since 1985 has left me disappointed. I figured that, now in their forties, they've probably run out of good music ideas and are doing whatever they can to follow popular trends and just make a buck. Even if someone were to tell me that this is the best album they've made in seventeen years and possibly their best ever I still wouldn't have expected much. Boy was I wrong. The entire album (all fourteen songs) just blew me away. I could not believe what I was hearing. I've always felt Mantas has been one of the most underrated guitar players ever. On this album he's even better than I could have wished. Every song has bad-ass riff after bad-ass riff. It's been a long time since I've heard so many on one album. The guitar solos are vintage Mantas (I only wish there could have been more of them). I couldn't imagine Cronos sounding any better. His tone of voice is perfect throughout (I like how he pronounces his "r"s). The smart-ass insults, threats and sarcasm are quite funny. Antton's drumming is phenomenal, too (He pounds the s*** out of them). It's also one of the best produced albums I've ever heard (the louder it is the better it sounds). Aside from a few lyrics I don't care too much for (it's easy for me to ignore that when there's so much else going on) this album is a flawless masterpiece. One of the best metal albums I've ever heard. Highly recommended.

Venom finally gets good production values!,

I always wanted to try out Venom because these guys inspired so many groups, such as Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. If you look at old pictures of these groups, they are almost always wearing Venom shirts. I tried out some of Venom's earlier stuff but the production was just so bad! There first albums are horendously produced and mixed. It just resulted in me losing interest in them. Then I noticed Resurrection, there newest (and probably final) album. I was actually blown away with its awsome production. The guitars sound amazing and the vocals are crisp and clear. It sounds SOO much better than their original albums. Though I'm not real big on a lot of their lyrics, I just love his voice and killer riff after killer riff. With the guitars and vocals being so good, you can get past the lyrics (unless you dig that sort of thing). Very impressive album from the original trio.
