5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for Store Owners and Managers
This book is easy to understand, and it has everything in it that a retail person needs to know in order to reduce thefts and other kinds of losses in a store. I've looked at other books, but they're too complicated. This one lays the topics out in a logical way, and the writer doesn't try to impress you with big words--just the facts!

After reading this book I would say most of it is common sense. Example, watch for possible shoplifters who are wearing heavy/baggy clothes. Or let managers/supervisors handle voids & refunds to reduce possible employee fraud. I was disappointed that there are no real-life "stories" about true incidents that have occurred (which would have been interesting to read about)...

After reading this book I would say most of it is common sense. Example, watch for possible shoplifters who are wearing heavy/baggy clothes. I was disappointed that there are no real-life "stories" about true incidents that have occurred (which would have been interesting to read about).
The book has sections on checking for counterfeit (US) currency, but there are newer bills that the book describes (and in any case this info is freely available online).
Other topics covered are cash register control, banking procedure, employee fraud, shoplifting, check fraud, credit card fraud, refund fraud, insurance protection, robbery/burglary, casual mention of CCTV/anti-theft systems, workplace violence, sexual harassment, Safety/OSHA and Internet fraud. Note that each topic is generally covered in 3-6 pages.
If you have some retail experience you probably know most of this stuff. If you are an absolute newbie consider this a brief primer to the subject.
On a final note this book's binding is ATROCIOUS - on a brand new sealed copy the binding was already looking like the book would very soon spilt in half. I find this unacceptable for a new book.

As soon as I got this book and opened it up, the pages began to rip. It was put together very poorly. Alghough, it does contain a very good amount of information in it. Whoever the company is that put it together though did a very poor job, because after reading through it for about a week, most of the pages had come apart from it.
